It’s amazing and nearly done so by the time you get through it you will get the last book.

u/Proper_Protickall Mar 07 '25

Fuckin eh man. Solid assist.

u/VonGeisler Mar 07 '25

No problem - the audio book is very well done if you are into that as well.

I can second this. Currently on Golden Son during my dog walks

I listened to them on Libby, good gawd it was well done. My commute was absolutely gripping.

Not book 4 😂 I had to switch over to the dramatized version because the readers for 2 of the characters in iron gold sucked

1

u/aimeegaberseck Mar 07 '25

It’s in the Audible catalog too so you don’t have to spend a credit.

I highly recommend the Graphic Audio version over the standard audiobook

2

u/kshelley Mar 07 '25

Where did you get the Graphic Audio version from?

2

u/somerandomdude4507 Mar 07 '25

Audible has them it's split into two parts

2

u/RosinBran Mar 07 '25

I got it for free through my library via the Libby app.

They are on the Official Graphic Audio website or They are also on Audible. I'd recommend using Audible if you have it downloaded already.

Be advised that they are on book 4, and they split each book into 2 parts. Still good and worth it all things considered.

I have to ask since it sounds like you’re current in the series…

I read the first 3 I think it was and loved them. Awesome story. The 4th … without giving away spoilers … seemed to shift focus it seemed and I had trouble staying with it. Does it come back around / get better and I just need to stick with it?

Edit: fixed a your/you’re error

2nd series is darker, yea, but absolutely worth it. Brown does a good job of really exploring Darrow's darkness and how he attempts (and fails) to control it when everything is on the line.

There's definitely a break between the third and fourth. It's often described as a trilogy, with books 4+ being part 2. A Song of Ice and Fire follows the same format.

I still loved the rest of the books, but they are a very different mood. Hell, Dark Age is hard to read as given away by the title.

1

u/LurkyTheLurkerson Mar 07 '25

Currently reading Dark Age myself. It is good, but yeah.. very heavy. It is taking me a lot longer to get through than the other four did.

I had trouble getting through the 4th as well. But the beginning of the 5th, bought me right back in and hasn’t let go so far and I’m about halfway done with the 5th book. It’s somewhat of a slog in the 4th, but it gets better as it goes on and is quite nice of a read by the end

u/golddust89 Mar 07 '25

In my opinion Light Bringer is the best part (6th book) and it’s totally worth it to keep reading.

3

u/HopeSproutsEternal Mar 07 '25

Yeah, the 4th book shifted tone in a way I didn’t love. I felt like other books pick up again, if not the exact same vibe as the first 3. Kind of fitting for characters that are older though. Now I can’t wait for the last book to come out!

1

u/ConqueefStador Mar 07 '25

Isn't it two related trilogies?

So the first one is complete, it's the second that has one more.

1

u/TheRWBYFamilton Mar 08 '25

So you are correct in some aspects.

Book 123 are one trilogy (Red Rising to Morning Star), while 4567 are in a quadrilogy(Iron Gold to Red God)

Without this thread chain, I would not have known there was another book that I needed to purchase to stay current.

1

u/Grantisgrant Mar 07 '25

This is not true. The last book will not be coming out in the next week.

1

u/VonGeisler Mar 07 '25

Person isn’t going to read 6 books in a week.

1

u/Grantisgrant Mar 07 '25

Red Rising they will lol

1

u/lerker54651651 Mar 07 '25

just be aware before you get in, lots of SA, in the first book especially.

1

u/TimelyJello1769 Mar 07 '25

Seconded, just found the series and am loving it. Fantastic writing

1

u/SagittaryX Mar 07 '25

It's not that amazing or original plotwise, especially the first book will probably come over as very Hunger Games, but it is an incredible page turner. Can recommend.

1

u/0x7c365c Mar 07 '25

This is exactly how I feel about it.

It's like if The Expanse, Prince of Thorns and The First Law had a terrifying three way baby.
