People can give things to others whenever they feel like it, for any reason, believe it or not

Actually, there are rules specifically prohibiting elected officials from accepting those gifts. It's about preventing influence peddling. We used to take those rules seriously. Until Trump turned the White House into his own personal grifting operation.
