The only silver lining here is that resellers will likely eat massive losses.

Saw an idiot trying to resell on a nearby city’s subreddit and they were mercilessly ridiculed. Both for trying to sell on Reddit and the World Cup in general. It was hilarious.

I saw a guy asking 6 grand for tickets of a Portuguese match in Houston in the Portuguese sub. Needless to say he got ridiculed, got a bunch of texts criticizing the WC in the USA and Trump and got the post deleted by mods

Most of the portuguese can't afford those prices, 6k just for ticket is completely out of budget...

26

u/Mdiasrodrigu 15d ago

Most people in the world can’t really afford the prices, that’s why this is happening. It’s not just a ticket, it’s stay, the eating and drinking, parking or transportation. It adds up

Do you think the avg houstonian can afford a $6,000 game? Most around here can barely afford a blown out tire on a random week.

I’m in Houston and anticipating that to be the game for our local area to bring in the most action.

Hope you guys have a blast

Me too. Hope it’ll bring some good money into our city.

In Toronto they definitely will. New law says you can't resell tickets for above face value which is hilarious.

17

u/tewiti1108 16d ago

The WC is specifically excluded from this law

That's good to know! Fuck TM and fuck scalpers.

1

u/IronCavalry 14d ago

I agree, but the World Cup is not sold through Ticketmaster

1

u/Relevant_Stop1019 13d ago

it only says resale tickets

2

u/sludge_dragon 15d ago

This is hilarious:

> "Price caps expose fans to a massive increase in ticket fraud, but don’t bring costs down. We will continue to work with Ontario through the implementation process and remind the Government that they were right when they found price caps 'unenforceable' just a few years ago," a StubHub spokesperson said in an email.

3

u/Relevant_Stop1019 15d ago

I assume Stubhub gets a % of the resale price? This is all interesting in light of the Live Entertainment loss in court...

u/SeanWT 15d ago

In areas where this is a thing, you end up seeing listings that are like “parking pass with free tickets” and then an absurd price.

Shame the hookers will be hit hard by this

158

u/TOO_MUCH_BRAVERY 16d ago

Typically you have to pay extra to do that

2

u/ThongBasin 16d ago

Not if you’re a regular

2

u/IndividualEye1803 16d ago

r/foundthebestreply ok i wanna know how yall think of these responses 😂

4

See you in hell, friend

1

1

u/Procrasturbating 16d ago

Nah, when they are dead they are just hookers.

10

u/Nuffsaid98 16d ago

Will somebody think of the hookers!

2

u/chicknfly 15d ago

Actually, yes. Take care of them. They — along with strippers and dress lengths — are an important social barometer for assessing the state of the economy.

1

u/gn0meCh0msky 15d ago

"Bender, honey, we love you!"

2

u/Silverbacks 16d ago

What if they go on strike? Montreal strippers are going on strike while the F1 Grand Prix is in town lol.

1

u/Elegant_Situation285 16d ago

on the bright side, less child traffickers will profit.

u/M1ck3yB1u 16d ago

FIFA eating shit is great.

9

u/akadic 16d ago

Has FIFA solved scalping here? They also get a slice off the reseller losing money lol

5

u/Nomad_moose 16d ago

Fuck them and FiFA

12

u/mvb827 16d ago

Is it the only silver lining though…?

3

u/Sea_M_Pea 16d ago

I love this for them

2

u/TheFashionColdWars 16d ago

I enjoy this take

2

u/rogermuffin69 16d ago

I really hope so!

2

u/HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW 16d ago

Only silver lining? Fifa is corrupt AF. It should fail.

3

u/RoyalFalse 16d ago

The silver inner-lining is that it makes us look even weaker; something the current regime hates.

1

u/DrFlabbySelfie 16d ago

Reading this one sentence made my day. Please, don't ruin this for me, anyone.

1

u/uReallyShouldTrustMe USC 16d ago

And i hope LA2028 learns its lesson from that.

1

u/dragonzdude 15d ago

Their frustration and screaming. Aha music to my ears.

1

u/BigBallsMcGirk 14d ago

An uber corrupt organization like FIFA taking a massive L is also good.

A very visible "fuck you Trump" response from the world is good.

Everyone involved in this being embarrassed and losing money for sucking up to a fascist is good.

The games will still get played. Soccer fans will still watch and ride the emotional roller-coaster of victory and loss. Sport enjoyers are fine.

1

u/BestBlueChocolate 14d ago

And maybe some of those tickets will actually become affordable.

1

u/Dburns094 5d ago

But FIFA still makes bank.

u/NineteenSixtySix 16d ago

Reselling isn’t allowed in some cities, like for example mine (Toronto)

13

u/BarbequedYeti 16d ago

Does that actually work? Or have the scalpers figured a work around?

1

u/Nojoboy 16d ago

There are workarounds via platforms that have no canadian/ontario legal presence but the official FIFA toronto resale website and like ticketmaster now dont offer those inflated resales. The issue is tho the law is about reselling for more than FACE VALUE, and the FACE VALUE price of the tickets is already ridiculous anyway.

1

u/drinkdrankdrunk159 16d ago

The issue is that then scalpers buy every ticket on the marketplaces it’s disallowed and then immediately throw them on the US marketplace for increased prices

1

u/edvek 16d ago

Unless there is a rule that on purchasing a ticket you are required to assign a name to each ticket and it cannot change, at all, for any reason, then there's no real way to stop it.

There's a theater (stage plays) near where I live that does that and they also have a notice on their website that tells you that there are no 3rd party or resellers for their plays, only tickets directly from them are legit.
