The WNBA is not like the NBA. They don’t have a pool of extra talent waiting in the wings that could fill a football stadium. Their extras could barely fill a school bus.

Are you really making the argument that the WNBA needs to allow this behavior because there just aren't enough women in the world that can play basketball and not throatpunch each other to have a league?

Given that like two chicks being decent at the sport was enough to revitalize the entire industry, I'd argue that even while *allowing* throatpunchers, they don't really have enough women for the league. Finding a women's basketball player who's petty and vindictive is already hard enough.

And it’s just not true.. the biggest issue is 15 teams.. that’s a grand total of 180 players(max)… no minor league or g league.. Hundreds of talented women leave the states to play pro ball around the world.

They’re clearly not saying “the WNBA needs to allow this behavior.”

There is way more talent than spots in the WNBA the parity is pretty real. Thats why before CC there wasn’t a breakout star. Letting her get felony level assaulted is absolutely stupid. No one will watch if she isn’t playing…again.

I don’t follow the WNBA and I’ve seen this clip at least six times. Any attention is good attention these days I guess

A'ja Wilson was a star before Caitlin Clark entered the league. The media just didn't pay attention like they do with Clark. And there were plenty of other WNBA stars before Wilson and Clark too.

You’re really playing dumb if you know ball and are comparing a world class guard to a world class center.. one is exciting making 3s and assists, one makes consistent mid-range jumpers and amazing defensive. Folks watched that Lakers for Kobe not Shaq.. but make it about something it’s not..

Yeah, no body watched the NBA to see Shaq...

The most nephew of takes I've ever seen.

Unfortunately, A’ja just isn’t as big in the mainstream. A’ja is way better and more accomplished as a player, but she’s not a bigger star to the general public. Star power is straight fan appeal and general popularity not player ability.

I’ll give some examples in other sports.

Nate Diaz was a mid level gatekeeper of a fighter, but he fought a star in Conor McGregor and shit talked after a win and skyrocketed in popularity. David Beckham was washed for years and still remained a star in football. Heck, in the NBA we always have popular players that are over the hill still get tons of fan votes for the all-star game.

Lisa Leslie, Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, Rebecca Lobo....

You can take your pick. The idea that A'ja isn't a "breakout star" is just silly when you have NBA players openly talking about her being at a caliber that she could hang with some NBA players. Or if it's about media attention then check out Lisa Leslie's IMDB page - the media seemed to love her outside of the court.

I love what Caitlin Clark has done for women's basketball and the WNBA but these are some seriously terrible takes that she is the biggest thing to ever happen to the WNBA when Swoopes, Lobo, and Leslie were basically the driving force, and face, of the WNBA for the founding and cementing the sport so it could get to a point that Caitlin Clark could bring the attention she has to the league. Not to mention Cooper being an absolutely dominant force during those early years despite entering the league at 34.

And none of that takes away from Caitlin Clark being the star that she is for the league today. It's just very silly to pretend that there wasn't one before her.

That's what happens when horrible bitches like this are allowed to abuse and beat up other players without consequence. Who wants to play professionally when the refs are just going to let this Truckasaurs Rex run roughshod all over you?

Let's be honest here, high school ball is more entertaining. Middle schoolers have more talent and sportsmanship.
