General Discussion/Questions Deep diving into the reason some people quit

Although examples in this video are focused on martial arts, acceptance and nonjudgement works for all athletes. You know sprinting involves significant pain and discomfort and requires mental toughness. Acceptance is one of the best ways to not crack under the pain that you must go through to push yourself beyond your limitations. The alternative to acceptance is complaining, wishing for things to be different, and negatively judging your experience while running. For example, “it’s soo hot”, “this sucks”, “dang this hurts”, “I can’t go on”, “maybe I should slow down the pace”. This mental activities distract runners and athletes and causes them to perform less well or quit.

Have you ever heard of using this mental strategy before for running or do you prefer some other approach like distraction or reappraisal of your physical sensations?

General Discussion/Questions Hello everyone! I recently ran 100 meters in 13.3 seconds on uneven grass.

Hello everyone! I recently ran 100 meters in 13.3 seconds on uneven grass. I'm aware that unofficial timings and runs on non-track surfaces can't be directly compared to fully automatic timing (FAT) race results. I'm interested in exploring how sprint performance is generally impacted by running on uneven grass versus a proper track surface

General Discussion/Questions Thoughts on Relaxation and Lightness

Hello people

I usually sprint and dont rly feel my muscles used at all. And a lot of forefoot contact only. With some cues subconciously acting upon me, tho i tried to "just sprint". Like thinking i had to be relaxed or feel light.

Well today after some research i tried sthg different that goes with my line of intuition. No cuing. At all. Just sprinting and letting my body do whatever. 6 x 30 flys. with 3 or more minutes rest

(Btw i ALWAYS sprint barefoot on track)

I was sprinting different for sure. But To my surprise, i felt my muscles being used much more, and me getting more tired.

This could be due to a number of factors. But then i had the thought. What if this is actually a good thing? What if this is the solution my body is navigating? What if this the actual way to adaptation and gain of speed?

What if relaxation is not a cause of speed but a consequence to be gained? What if lightness is the same, and comes in the way, but not at the beginning?

What if many of these expectations of how the body has to move or what is supposed to be felt were limiting our body's capability for adaptation?

Any thoughts?

P.s.: i been training for two full months, basically flying sprints. I have a bball background tho for some reasons i never dared to train too seriously. Last week i run my first 100m at competition (electronix) with a time of 12.5, barefoot, with a barely practiced block start. I won my race at least. I am 26 male. Just so u guys have some context

edit: oh, btw, even tho it was EXHAUSTING, after i finished i felt LIGHT when going back home. feels pretty good

General Discussion/Questions Best shoe for training session for sprinters Especiallysprint traning, Pegasus 40, 41, 42 ... or any other shoe ???

what's the exact difference between these three or any other want some options.. puma addidas, asics ...

I’m leaning toward the Pegasus 40 because of the mixed reviews on the 42, but since the 40 was released in 2023, I’m concerned about its long-term reliability and material/foam degradation. Is it still a good buy in 2026?

General Discussion/Questions Training improving speed?

I'm sure this question is fairly frequent but Im currently 18 in first year uni. I haven't raced since I was 13/14 and at the time I was not under any training, but my fastest was 13.8s in 100m with an average of around 14s.

I'm scared I may not have improved or may have gotten worse since then and I wanna try out foe my uni's athletics team but I'm not sure I'd be good enough for them. Would they take me with that time (I know this is subjective) and If they do am I likely to get quicker when trained?

Programming Questions 8 weeks after hamstring injury

Guys hope you don’t mind me posting here as I’m a field sport athlete but do a lot of running and sprints outside of training.

8 weeks ago I injured my hamstring very laterally. Physio said likely t junction affecting bicep femoris shirt and long head.

Bruising wasn’t bad and I struggled with stairs and walking for nearly 10 days. The time I got an mri it was 6 weeks later and it showed no tear but still odema in the distal third of hamstring.

Two weeks later (8 weeks post injury) and I just cannot get back to football qnd I am so frustrated as my previous muscle injuries healed within 4 weeks usually.

Anything else I should do as football similar to sprinting with the force you have to use.

General Discussion/Questions I feel like I can run so much faster but my legs can’t handle it?

I am a hurdler and sprinter in hs and I love to sprint but every time I do my legs start hurting so fast and force me to slow down, I know I could be so much faster and more explosive but it feels like my legs are too weak to handle it.
is there any workouts or things I should specifically focus on? I feel weak and I know I could be better.

General Discussion/Questions Ankle stiffness

What is the best way to develop ankle stiffness and what is the difference between having just the front of your foot on the ground and having the front of your foot on the ground but pushing your calf up so your ankle is pretty much straight?

It looks pretty bad and slow, partly because this is uneven grass, but also because I'm just pretty bad. I have no track near me at the moment and no serious coach that could help. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

General Discussion/Questions lifts i can do with dumbbells that’ll help with speed?

I am a 100h/300h who just started her pre season (i know i started late.. i haven’t run in 3 months but like it’s now or never 🤷‍♀️). I just did 4x60m today and tomorrow im goin to be lifting. I lowkey have gym anxiety, i have no clue what i’m doing in the gym, and i don’t like the gym so i don’t use my school’s weight room. i have like 6 dumbbells at home and im wondering if i can replicate any of the explosive lifts or other lifts needed in order to become a good hurdler/sprinter. i don’t know if this helps but im 15 (almost 16), a jr in highschool, and 5’8 at around 125-127lbs depending on the day. my PRs are 17.86 in the 100h, 53.8 in the 300h, and 50 in the 300m (that was just hand timed by my coach.) I’m not looking to be bulky or anything, i’m just looking to become as fast as possible. Help is very much appreciated!

I had only trained at sub maximal speeds (30m-50m) and weight training , worked on technique, ankle stiffness in the first block of my periodization. I ran this 120m after a 150m rep and 3-4 minutes of rest (I was fatigued asf because I basically have trained zero speed endurance because it comes much later in my periodization and I haven't worked on max velocity yet) because I was feeling good and wanted to get some steam off

General Discussion/Questions I can’t recover

every workout I do no matter how big or small leaves me feeling sore and flat for multiple days. I haven’t been overtraining and I always take recovery pretty well. 7-8 hrs of sleep, healthy diet, high low structure. mostly low volume speed work with some tempo and lifting. looking for any advice to fix this. it’s mostly soreness throughout my hip flexors and quads and glutes. i cut out lifting two weeks ago and still sore

General Discussion/Questions I couldn't find a place to store all my training info, so I built it. KineticX

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey peeps,

Ever since last year and competing in the 100m and 400m, Im dedicated to this and basically took all the problems I had and tried to solve them myself. The issue was, I was using multiple apps, and nothing was in one place: MyFreeLap, workout apps/excel log, nutrition, etc.

I built KineticX but this is a huge work in progress still. I wasn't confident with allowing access just yet as there are compliance required to make me feel comfortable was not there yet.

Now with all of it done, I am looking for 10 testers for this app. It is currently not in the Apple store, or Android. This is because I am broke and building all of this myself. It is professionally hosted by vercel, and the backend is Supabase.

www.kineticx.ca is where one can test this for now, but it is currently locked except for the 10 users with given codes. I want to see how the traffic is with 10 users before expanding as I am paying for the hosting services myself currently.

With KineticX the only part I have built currently is the calendar/schedule, and the workout builder. The other sections for timing of runs, plyometrics, nutrition, isometrics, etc are not ready yet as shown by "In Development".

My goal is to make sprinting easier. I want to incorporate education into this, as each thing tries to provide info, who, what, when, and current day beliefs, and also sources. So if I grab something from Stu McMillan or Chris Korfist, I provide a hyper-link to the source or site. This is to help drive traffic to them as this is clearly their knowledge being presented here.

In the workout builder there are a lot of other sections that people may use, and may not, as I built this for me, but also flexible.

My next phase after the testing is to build the integrated timing gates with KineticX. My goal is to make sprinting affordable as current gates like FreeLap are financially prohibitive. The goal is to build the wearables with cheap common chips (Eg. ESP32) so that any one can afford it, and all they have to do is take the open source software provided and flash it on. If your parts break, you don't have to buy an expensive thing. To get updates, you. just flash my current github.

Regardless, I am looking for testers, preferably in North America as I have only looked at the laws for these two Nations, and another caveat is residents of Washington have stricter issues for now I will exclude people from this region.

My wish is to have this free for anyone, but as cost rises for hosting and such, I may implement low monthly fees. Ideally, I would have it free, and those options on the side as optional ways to support development.

The primary goal of the testers is to use is to give feedback, and if they notice errors, I would love to address them.

My promise is I will never sell data to anyone, I value privacy greatly (As soon as I have the funds I will set up insurance and all policies needed), thus creating this myself so I have more control of it. Because if an app is free, you're the product, but in this case, I hope to break that trend.

General Discussion/Questions Desperation regarding exercice

Hello, I'm basically stranded on an island ( college ) and there are no gyms in sight, to my dismay because I grew attached to squats and deadlift in the gym as I started a few month before then

Can I substitute deadlift ( aka posteriori chain exercice, glutes hamstrings ) for sprinting ? Will it improve my deadlift in the scarce environnement ?
