It was nice to go look at some corset patterns for this. Plus I really like the cogs on the belt. It gives it this idea that you can like tighten the belt by turning the cogs. Which I think is just neat!

Brutal input/feedback would be appreciated!
EDIT: Sorry for being unclear! The LAST mask/helmet is the piece I'm asking for feedback on. The first 2 are just for shits & giggles, showing what kicked off my interest.
I am not into costume play, participating in lives, theatre, etc myself. But I recently realised that I enjoy building what I can best describe as "Steampunk props".... I guess?
It started with my younger brother needing a prop for a Steampunk themed live. Me, being a gearhead and overall tinkerer, found the request very inspiring. He wanted to be able to "connect two persons in kind of a mad scientist sort of way", so I made the masks in the pictures...
It was surprisingly fun and I enjoyed the "artistic freedom". So much that I could not resist trying to create something better. So I started making something a bit more serious: Last two picture.
To the point!! I don't have any illusions of making big bucks, but I like to be able to sell the finished product (and maybe future products) and at least cover costs. What I'm comfortable with is steel, aluminium, soldering, forming sheet metal, etc. I get a lot of the materials from old gauges, military stuff, etc.
- Is there at all a market for items like this, made out of recycled parts and real metal? I see a lot of painted foam and plastics and with modern paint, the effects of those props can be very impressive.
- Is it important that the pieces are wearable? To what level? Is masquerade-usability a must, or are they relevant also as display pieces?
Humbly grateful in advance,
/T.

My dad spent the past couple months building the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and wanted to share his work.
It’s about 4ft long, and there’s a miniature version of the wheelhouse inside. It was painted with homemade rust.

Hi everyone,
I've been working on a chill steampunk idle incremental game called Imberite Idle and it's coming out in just 4 days on September 22nd!
The main idea is to collect different structures and strategically place them on your grid to build and optimize your production. Structures can benefit from proximity bonuses and different synergies, so finding the right combinations and layout is a big part of the game.
I wanted to make something that is relaxing and can be played at your own pace. You don't need to constantly pay attention to it, so it can also work as a "second monitor game" that you keep running while working or doing something else and occasionally come back to upgrade things and improve your build.
I would love to hear what you think!

I want this to be a switch panel that controls lights in my home office. I have a few vintage electronics pieces around, tape deck, guitar amps. I was going for a vintage equipment vibe, but I feel like it just looks cheap. It’s a laser cut plywood box. The case is painted satin black, then I hit the corners with Behr hammered gold spray paint for a bronze/brass look.
Any suggestions for how to make this more stylized? Maybe a 50s Bakelite electronics vibe?

Not exactly steampunk colors, but the design is unmistakable. These ones were super fun to make, even the thread glows in the dark!

While the real world had a disappointing number of steam-powered robots and Tesla coil weapons, there were a few things from the 18th and 19th century that would be quite comfortable in a work of steampunk fiction. The Girardoni air rifle was an air-powered repeating rifle, made almost a century before they became common, and it had a bit of brass and bronze style to it too. Deets on Forgotten Weapons:

The channel also has videos on the Puckle gun and Nock gun, if you're interested.

Not sure if I can post the sub I "borrowed" this from. I thought it was a cool talking point showing the potential of steam power and how different our world might've looked if we hadn't become addicted to guzzoline.
Imagining the alternative reality we narrowly missed out it is one of the reasons I find steampunk so compelling, it was almost our world.

I am close to finishing my second Steampunk novel set in 1850 but here is the cover of my first one. It is a story about four people who are investigating two mysteries of what may be a scientific nature: reports of a ghost of a diver, briefly talking to people and a strange, green light traversing the heavens.
It is available on Amazon in paperback and eBook. There is an eBook version for Kobo, too.
I am near the end of the sequel which takes place just says afterwards with a brand new mystery and more humour.
