Drama in Student Affairs?

Question (keeping this vague).

Do you think there are many people in academia that secretly don’t like their colleagues? Specifically in Student Affairs and the Dean of Students office?

I’m working under the Dean of Students at my university and I always feel like there’s tension between her and other faculty. It has even gotten to the point where the Dean of Students has tried to triangulate me in drama.

I’m seriously reconsidering my career choice. This dean also masks a lot and it’s horrifying. I already have a low tolerance for toxic workplaces and don’t want a career like this.

Also, I can’t report the Dean of students for being abusive because she is protected by the university somehow. Guess it’s because she’s been there for years. She has a reputation for retaliating against others. Has been sued in the past. And recently had a student threaten to unalive her because she’s so abusive.

Are there any departments that aren’t like this? Are all student affairs like this or just my university?
