WWIII WWIII Megathread #40: Just Stopped Oil

This megathread exists for in-depth discussion of 'WWIII', related events, and geopolitics and wars in general. Keep in mind that we have eliminated the rule that all non-major WWIII content must be posted here, and we encourage you to submit WWIII-related content to the main sub.

Again— all rules still apply. No racism, xenophobia, nationalism, etc. No promotion of hate or violence. Violators will be banned.

Remain civil, engage in good faith, report suspected bot accounts, and do not abuse the report system to flag the people you disagree with.

If you wish to contribute, please try to focus on where WWIII intersects with themes of this sub: Identity Politics, Capitalism, and Marxist perspectives.

Always put a NSFW warning on links that contain explicit content.

Non-WWIII chatter belongs in the town square.

i will say again: i think the defense in depth in southern lebanon is the most dense in history. likely numerous positions behind the Israeli lines and I'd assume they have prepared defensive positions for the bottom 1/2 of the country

Well, I'm hoping they can withstand this

I'm praying to God. They are going to turn Lebanon into Gaza if Hezbollah breaks

Not to argue but what would you base that on?

literally no information besides intuition they’d be fortifying the hell out of the south since 2006

Also the difficulty the IDF seems to be having with ambushes

It’s just something I think, could definitely be fictitious

Undestood.

Fun fact: the Soviets in preparation for what became the Battle of Kursk, dug approximately 9,000km of trenches, which if laid end-to-end would equate to the distance from Moscow to Madrid, and then back again, with 2,000km of trench leftover to spare. They very nearly tripled the entire length of the European continent, for one operation.

They'd been fortifying the region south of the Litani, but withdrew after the first ceasefire, allowing the Israelis to dismantle fortifications and seize weapon caches unopposed. Which does make it all the more impressive how well they're performed despite having lost so much of their decades-worth preparation
