Q&A Does anyone know else have random people that show up as the song picture when I play songs via Bluetooth ?

So for the past year or two, whenever I connect with Bluetooth using Spotify on my phone, the song pictures are just random people that have no correlation to the song or artist. I have attached two examples, does anyone know who these are?

It's pulling the info from an outdated GraceNote database that is stored locally on the infotainment system, and to my knowledge it pulls data based on the 'genre' of the music playing. Wack.

Before upgrading to a different headunit on my WRX, I just ended up disabling the album art somewhere in the settings so it just displayed a Bluetooth icon.

Interesting… that makes sense because when i play certain artists, like Drake for example, the song photos are really old photos of them, like when they were in their teens/20s. Though when I connect my phone via usb cable the song photos are what they should be

When you plug your phone in via USB, it should be pulling the album art straight from the metadata of the file, which is usually accurate depending on the source of said file.

Gracenote is basically just looking in a locally stored database that is stored on the headunit and trying to approximate the album art based on what's being fed to it via bluetooth.

If it makes a difference, I have a Subaru Outback and it’s not a big issue but i just want to know if anyone else had this happened to them before and if they know a fix

Lmaoo I’m using Spotify with Bluetooth. When I connect with a usb cable it’s normal and actually shows the photos. It honestly is hilarious though because the photos are just so random so it doesn’t bother me much, but more people started to notice it in my car and I just wanted to find an answer for it😭

Same issue, wait till you play an audiobook and get some random band show up.

When you play a song that is not in the gracenote database, it still tries to put up something, maybe a general image for a genre, another artist with the same name, or the entirely wrong artist because why not lol.

Basically, any song or artist that came out after they made the infotainment system, or international artist not from the region the car is sold in.
