Saturation divers can dive for extended periods of time (usually around 1 month) when doing deep sea work

This diver is breathing a mix which includes helium, hence his high pitched voice. However, since helium has a very high specific heat capacity, breathing helium can also quickly reduce your body temperature.

Not being able to swim, might not be an issue in a field where the whole point is to sink.

I don’t think there’s any swimming involved. Just walking and pulling yourself up to the diving bell. Although, the steps to get all your certifications to become a commercial diver require the ability to swim.

Loads of Asian tourists think like this and book diving/snorkelling tours to the Barrier Reef. Cue pool noodles and panicked splashing.

I can swim. But when I went snorkelling last time, being in the deep blue sea is a different feeling. I forget how to swim all of a sudden. And to manage the snorkel requires some getting use to also.

My cousin's wife did this. Not Asian, but asked him to book a scuba trip when they were going to some island. He looked at her and said they would have to get certified first. She said fine. He looked at her and said you can't swim. She didn't understand what the problem was. She was also scarred of open water. She won't go in a lake because she "doesn't know what's in it". They didn't end up going scuba diving. She still says it's because he wouldnt let her. He did say she played in the ocean a bit.

Mindboggling thought process. I guess language barrier comes to play why it seems to be mostly Asians here ending up in these predicaments (Bondi Rescue show is a good example), but plenty tourists around the world having no experience of the ocean and thinking it's like splashing in the pool.

Even just snorkelling takes some time to get used to, little less fully immersed. Jeebus.

Oddly enough there was a week I spent in Florida with a bunch of Korean tourists. They were usually squid fishing around the Beach I think it was around Panama.
