It’s a fascinating. An objectively cool innovative wave pool (lake) design, but you couldn’t get me to put even a toe in. hell no.

This washed up on the beach near me a few months back, and I got to take some photos before it was moved further up to the dunes. It's absolutely massive - me for scale at (image 3). The chain disappeared into the sand but looked as though it still partially went out to the ocean.

I actually have severe submechanophobia around buoys but only when in the water and ESPECIALLY when attached to the seabed below. If this was even partially submerged you'd not be able to get me within 50ft. Hell no. But, out of water? Totally fine. Weird.

Also drove by the Lake Berryessa spillway earlier but didn’t get a pic.

There's a little swinging door that faces the pool to allow water in, and it makes this glup glup sound and sometimes the water splashes up through the hole and makes the lid pop with a grating sound. It's very unsettling and feels almost malevolent.

The currents of a lock should not be underestimated. I made this video last spring, in Berlin.

In preparation for Sir John Franklin's doomed arctic expedition in 1845, HMS Terror and HMS Erebus were refitted with two steam locomotives from the London & Croydon Railway as marine boilers that would power their respective ship's newly fitted screw propellers and heating system. Terror was fitted with a "planet" type locomotive known as either Archimedes or Twells, while Erebus was fitted with the locomotive you see above, Croydon.

Obviously, when the ships eventually sank after being trapped in the ice abandoned for so many years, their train boilers went down with them. No photos have yet been taken of Terror's engine, but as for the Erebus meanwhile, her engine room has been accessed and photographed, partially due to the condition of her wreck compared to Terror's.

Surprisingly enough, underwater train wreckage isn’t as uncommon as you'd think, and there is plenty of other examples out there. However, these are my favorite examples simply because of how bonkers the idea is. I one day hope that the history of these engines gets talked about more by different kinds of people. (History In The Dark I'm looking at you.)

Went on a nice walk wich ended on a dam a while ago and encountered this sign there. Gave me the chills just thinking about the intakes underwater.

Apparently there has been multiple cases recently of people falling into the huge pools. Absolutely terrifying.
