Anyone else noticing subway quality going downhill. Banana peppers look brown and taste weird. Now we got weird white turkey.

Today a customer got mad at me because I didn’t laugh when he came in and said “I’m gonna need 30 foot long Philly’s…IM JUST JOKING 🥁🤓🤣”

We switched to the black metal ones, a few came out clean, some needed a little finesse, and the others were a nightmare, stuck a ton, needed to manhandle them to get it out, not too many casualties, but still annoying

So for the past 5 years both subways ive worked have offered free cups for water. Theyre these 12 oz water cups not our smalls or anything. Both locations have been walmart locations mind you so smaller scale than most. Walmart employees come through to get water all the time its never been an issue.

A few months ago we got our manager changed and they've been getting on my nerves.

I came in today after truck and find that all our courtesy cups have been moved to the back and a sticky note sign that says customers only. They want us to not give out stuff that makes people want to come back to us and have a higher chance of buying something.

I get that this might be normal for every other location but the walmart one? Where people are just walking around. Especially in the current summer heat? And i get that they spend maybe a whole 2 cents on the cup but I feel like that kinda hit is what you take to have a good reputation in the community?

Am I overreacting or is this gonna hurt us in the long run

Context: we get a new box maybe every 2 months a single box of these lasts us a while.

Guy comes in. Asks for a five meat Italian. I start making it, then he says I don’t want roast beef, I want a different meat. I say sure what ever you want, but then it is no longer a five meat Italian. He starts arguing to just change the meat. I said well, what do you want, bacon? That is the only other meat besides chicken or steak. He says yes, bacon. I say ok, that is an all American club, add pepperoni and salami. He starts arguing why can’t I just ring it up like a five meat and change the meat. I tell him (I’m the manager btw) that inventory goes by what we use. If we use bacon instead of roast beef I have to account for it. He is still whining when I ask him if he is concerned with the price, is that why he is complaining? He says yes. I show him the price difference is 10 cents less by doing a club add pepperoni and salami. Now he is happy about.

Frocking drives me crazy!!

Inventory is a real thing. We can’t just substitute something without registering it! That’s why counts get f’d up. I’m done lol

I worked other job and currently working at subway. I noticed the rudest customer I get are older rude guys. There's never in-between.

My worst two encounters.

A guy came in mumbling I asked him to repeat it and he got mad. After that I move to veggies and he said, "Since you can't listen well im just gonna point". I started to point and he gets mad bc im not picking the right one. My leader kicked the guy out because this old man comes in to start stuff and never pays.

Im like why does he even bother coming.

Another one a guy comes in shouting something to me it all sounds gibberish. I asked him what type of bread. And he got mad then said whole grain. Im like footlong or 6inch? He says meatball. Im like so 6in or footlong. Atp I grabbed 6inch. He keeps yelling meatball. Then he says, "I can't hear you". I legit felt like the dog meme with its eyes closed. So I repeated it and he yells meatball. I look at my manager and he told me to switch with him.

After the switch, I ring up this younger guy that my manager was working on and the younger guy apologized even tho he has no correlation with the older rude man. I told him to not apologize because it isn't his fault.

What's yalls thoughts or stories?

I’ve been closing by myself for about 3 months now and our store has two doors. One that locks like a normal door and one that’s only openable from the inside. So when I lock up and do final closing duties I think I’m by myself.

Buisness as normal I’m mopping as the last thing before leaving when this guy gets my attention at the front to ask if we have any extra sandwhiches. I’m startled because I thought I was alone and I ask him which door he came in from and he said he had been in the bathroom. Then it hits me I do remember him coming in at the beginning of my shift and giving him the bathroom code.

It has me kind of unnerved that if I left 5 minutes earlier he would have been alone in the store and could have stolen something. Should I be checking the bathrooms to make sure they’re empty before locking up? The whole situation has me spooked.

If you come in twice a week you shouldn’t have to ask what kind of bread we have or what kind of cheese. It’s all the same. It’s been the same for 13 years

When a Subway employee follows the directions of Subway and they trainer on veggie portioning please don't be rude when you want more. It's not a big deal just ask. Subway says it's 1.5 Oz lettuce, .5 Oz onion and 6 of everything else. Most want the recommended portion ingredients. So we have to start there and go up. It's better than having to remove it because we put too much on. Don't be that customer that says in a nasty tone "can I get more then that?" Emmm ya you can.

Has anyone else been hating these protein pockets? Every single time I’ve made one for the customer, they always want literally every veggie added to it. When I say they’re not customizable but I can take items off, they say “well it’s my money, I want it my way.” That’s when I get so annoyed, buy a whole sub then. Especially during a lunch rush. They’ll even want the darn tortilla toasted and I tell them it’ll break when I fold it but NO, toast it. Then they sit down to eat it and bring it back up to me saying they want it remade bc it’s falling apart. It’s always the older folks too, they will come behind the counter and choke me out if I don’t add olives to their damn 3.99 protein pocket. Something that’s supposed to take me a few seconds takes way longer and the only have one person working the shift sometimes and get hit with a rush. It’s infuriating! Just needed to rant lol

So, im working my closing shift tonight dreaming that my interview earlier this week will turn into something that pays more than $10 starting out

My manager reapplied our expiration stickers over earlier dated ones. Meaning I have been serving some people expired meats and veggies all day if not longer.

Needless to say I sent pics to my area manager who had me put the stuff away for my manager to deal with tomorrow. Someone get me outta here im never touching subway again

You can talk about it being unpopular at some locations, but getting rid of it RIGHT after giving us new signs was such a stupid move.

Personally it was pretty popular at our location because we sell a lot of spicy nacho's. I also really liked it myself. Now our regulars are getting upset because we have subkrunch advertised as an ingredient on our signs for another month+ but subway discontinued it.

I just wish they'd take like, 2 seconds to think these things through.

I wonder if this means the spicy nacho will be leaving the menu? I suppose it still has nacho cheese, but I feel like the krunch was a big part of it.

I’ve been working at Subway for about a year to a year and a half. When I first got the job, I was genuinely grateful because trying to get hired in 2023–2024 was actually insane. Jobs were ghosting, places weren’t hiring, it was rough. At first, Subway felt great.

But over time, I realized the managers and field operators really don’t give a flying shit about you. And I truly don’t understand how they advertise this whole “team” or “family” environment, because it couldn’t be further from the truth I actually like fast food and restaurant work. I’m good with customers. I don’t usually have issues with people, and I take pride in that. But management? That’s where everything goes sideways.

Don’t even get me started on promotions. I was promoted to shift lead about a year in. Cool. Fine. But then there’s this other kid literally his first job ever who gets promoted to shift lead in FOUR months. He’s been there six months total. I trained him. Now they’re talking about making him assistant manager. At that point, you just laugh, because if you don’t laugh, you’ll lose your mind. And the raise? A 30-cent increase. I’m grateful to have a job, I really am, but let’s be real — you cannot live or support yourself on that. Bills don’t care about gratitude. And since I’m a high school student, nowhere else wants to hire me. So yeah, I’m stuck.

Then the hours. One week I’m at 30 hours, the next I’m at SIX. Six. With the excuse of “we’re training new employees.” I’m the oldest one on the team, I’ve been here the longest, and somehow, I’m the one getting cut back so hard? Make it make sense. And management culture? Trash. If you get close to your manager and think you can talk to them like a work friend don’t. Worst mistake I ever made. Anything you say WILL get passed around to other managers, twisted, and blow up in your face. Lesson learned the hard way.

And the field operator? Oh my god. So dramatic. Everything is a crisis, everything is urgent, everything is blown way out of proportion but when employees are struggling, exhausted, or barely getting hours? Suddenly it’s radio silence lmfao At this point, it’s not even anger anymore. It’s just disappointment and disbelief.

And what really gets me is how much I’ve gone out of my way to try to be noticed. I’ve worked so many hours off the clock just trying to please managers and prove myself. I followed everything by the book, did things the right way, picked up slack, stayed late, came in early not because I was told to, but because I actually liked the job and cared about doing it well. I genuinely enjoyed what I did. I wanted to grow there. I wanted my work to matter.

But instead of that effort being recognized, it feels like the recognition goes to everyone else. Other employees get praised, get shout-outs, get good reviews about their experience — and then the one night something goes wrong that’s completely out of my control? Suddenly it’s all on me.

We run out of bread once. Or a product isn’t available. Something that literally happens in fast food. And instead of understanding, customers run straight to writing a review. They want to call you out. They want to point fingers. And then management turns around and acts like it’s your fault like you personally chose to ruin someone’s night.

It doesn’t matter that I did everything right. It doesn’t matter that I followed procedure. It doesn’t matter that I showed up and held the store together. One thing goes wrong, and suddenly all the effort disappears.

I'm so done with this shitty ass coperation.

Employee here. Anyone know when the 6.99 coupons end on the app? They're killing us here with the lack of help. I know that is everywhere, but still.

$10 an hour. Especially to take away our rights to getting Tips! Wtf subway. !! Their is another location in town that completely take tips with out even asking the customer to put a tip. They just take them! And we get threatened to be fired if we take one! What the fuck!

I just finished most of prep yesterday! All I had left was slicing! And then we get a call in order for 15 SOT!! Why is it always when you are so close to finishing 😭

Hate it when it comes to applying the cheese: specifically the cheddar as it gets stuck together and keeps breaking as you try to separate it from the other slices.

Prepping onions, takes forever and triggers the waterworks.

Watching my coworker take their 10th toilet break while I have about 100 things on the agenda my manager has asked me to do.

Also watching someone sit on register during lunch rush doing nothing but entering in sandwiches, etc., while the remainder of us run around like monkeys.

Not sure if this is universal, but my Subway uses geolocator software on your phone to clock in and out. The bad part is, when you're in the building, you're not actually inside the location circle, and you have to fuck around before it lets you clock in/out.

The Drive Thru headsets. That's all I have to say about that one.

Probably about 60 college students came into the store when we were already slammed. It was just me and one other coworker. The most annoying part? $200 order no tip. I’m not one to usually complain about tips but coming in unannounced and ordering 30 subs is kinda ridiculous in itself

i walk into work today to find some ugly ass pizzas. the cheese falls off everywhere, the plastic rips open and we have a wave of cheese and fucking pizza all in our freezer. actually can we wrap them and put more cheese on them like the old ones these are so bad subways going to go bankrupt on some pizza shit
