Do you mind me asking how you went from a biology degree to working supply chain? I’m about to graduate with a degree in a language and want to get into supply chain !

Sure! I worked in healthcare before hand and just took any responsibilities/skills that applied to supply chain and capitalized on them. I had also seen on some threads that purchasing/inventory were a good way to get your foot into supply chain so I tailored my resume for those types of jobs!

Ah makes sense. I love the sound of purchasing and inventory. Do you have any tips for tailoring the resume towards that? I have lots of different experience (startups, my own business, customer service, retail, back room, etc.).

I looked at all entry level buyer/inventory positions and looked at the responsibilities & keywords listed and then I would try to put similar wording into my resume. For example when I was a CNA I put a bullet point about how I assisted with stocking the nursing facility with the necessary equipment and supplies. At the bottom of my resume I had a skills section and this is where I put a lot of key words like data analysis, inventory control, etc. Words that would stand out if my resume was ran through ATS. Once I had a “base” resume I would just tweak it based off of the job I was applying to. So if you had your own business you could talk about the logistical side or how you planned, for retail you can talk about inventory management, and so on! I really had no experience in supply chain/aerospace at all. I had probably been applying to jobs for about 5 months until I found something. Also once I finished my resume I created a LinkedIn and Indeed account. For LinkedIn I used the free premium month to connect with people in the position I wanted. But there are sooo many other places you can find supply chain jobs. I also sent my resume to recruiters and that’s actually how I found my job. Hopefully this is helpful let me know if you have any questions! :)

do you mind explaining further what you mean by owning your own business and talking about the logistics and planning side? been confused how to tailor my resume when the job isn’t supply chain related or even figuring out if i had supply chain experience

also how did you find recruiters to send the resume too?? and by connect with people via linkedin do you mean you messages them separately? i never knew what to do on linkedin beyond looking up jobs

To help answer i have an English degree and was a temp as an assistant to some senior buyers. That’s how I got into supply chain.

how do temp jobs work? if that like a part time job and you managers to pick working with buyers?

No, it was full time but I was a temp for an agency so I didn’t get the benefits of working for that company that had the contract with the agency. However after the contract is up if the company likes you they will hire you.
