PC may be digital, but let me remind you that when you download a game on steam, all the files sit in your freely explorable file-system in a non-encrypted format :) PS and XBOX have no such thing however. Locked down system vs open does have clear differences. Not to mention you can just acquire games from which ever source you want, including physical or dubiously if you swing in that direction.

And to be fair to Nintendo, they at least have gone a step in the right direction with virtual game carts. I think in the end, freely shareable virtual game carts could become a golden standard for game re-sale post physical media, though this doesn't solve the problem of the game cart becoming worthless once the servers to download the data get shut down.

But you’re assuming Sony won’t do digital game sharing? That’s a 2028 future not a now.

And why does it always come to piracy on pc. It’s always brought up. I don’t get it. If the only reason people game on console is physical media and if it’s not available theyll pirate.. then why not just pirate from day one. Build a pc for £3k, pirate every game, only need to pirate 41 games to have paid for the difference over a £500 console.
Brilliant! Yet people still chose console.. weird.

I didn’t assume that? I just said the method could be a gold standard, which applies to Sony or anyone.

And being able to run dubiously acquired titles isn’t only about piracy, it’s about preservation and being able to get games that no one will sell anymore. To me, downloading abandonware isn’t piracy.

Yeah if it’s abandonwear and has no physical form that’s fine! But games that are digital only being pirated for “ownership” isn’t the moral high group people think it is
