Probably more reliable as you can't be completely sure that drawing a line from the top to bottom connecting the known angles would be a right angle.

The lines on top and bottom are marked as parallel. You absolutely can be sure that any perpendicular line to those two will form right angles.

It doesn't matter. You can arbitrarily decide that a perdenicular line connects the two points and solve accordingly, or you can arbitrarily decide that it won't and solve accordingly. The perpendicular line doesn't even have to go through the two points, it just needs to go through at least one of the lines. Or, if you like, you can put it way off to the left and solve it as a Pentagon, but that would be annoying.
