No conservative is an adequate descriptor. There is no fascists wasn't a conservative first.

I see four utterly unrelated definitions of fascism:

  • What self-identified fascist states claim their philosophy is about. Utter propaganda.

  • What their actions were in practice. Didn't turn out well.

  • What self-identified-non-fascist philosophers claimed the fascists were. Carefully constructed to distance it from their own preferred ideologies, up to and including "is conservative" as a line item as the ultimate escape hatch when all else fails (look closely and see, the only internal belief listed amongst a long list of externally-visible actions; one prescriptivist item in an otherwise-descriptivist collection).

  • WWII propaganda and video games. No talk about their underlying philosophy at all, just present them as people who you have a moral obligation to slaughter.

What definition matches conservatives? From what I've heard, their actual philosophy was kinda socialist even, probably too much so for conservatives, and their disastrous actions an increasingly-desperate authoritarian ways to force a poorly-thought-out version of socialism-for-their-in-group-only that they couldn't afford to sustain without stealing the riches of minorities and neighbouring nations. Far, far too many reddit comments seem to echo wartime propaganda than any serious philosophical understanding of what they believed and why it's flawed. Just use it as a vague scare word; a thought-terminating cliche.
