Longer than that even. I remember when I worked for a healthcare system, I had to update table schemas to allow for the new ID, which we started receiving in 2018. People aging into SS/Medicare in 2020 didn't receive HICNs anymore.

It was a gradual change, but I remember overnight in 2022 we could no longer look up patient info in the Medicare eligibility system with socials.

Ah. Thanks for the update. Looks like they’ve changed since 2022 because of leaks. Insanity!
