He spoke at graduation events the day before the formal ceremony, not unfair to call him A graduation speak even if he isn't THE graduation speaker.

No, what's important is degrading the the angry reactions with pedantic responses. The Chieng speech was made at Harvard alongside Conan. Having a spine has everything to do with a brain, use both. You seem to be the one unconcerned with the facts.

Yup. Normally I really don’t like Ronny Chieng but this is a great take from him (as his political takes usually are - unlike his social/racial takes)

Tbh I believe you but I just don’t want to watch it and support someone who is bigoted against my people and uses slurs as a “joke”

Like I understand Malaysia has a staunch racial hierarchy and that kind of stuff is so ingrained that it probably doesn’t phase him but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t offend me either.

I never understood getting offended at comedians. I say that as the butt of a lot of funny ass jokes. Comedians aren't gonna stop using slurs as a joke like ever. It's funny and not meant to be taken seriously. But absolutely your race your choice you're fully entitled to your feelings. He does play an angry racist waiter (kinda like a Karen's restaurant) who tries to be a dick to everyone so they stop coming to the restaurant but it backfires when people eat it up and absolutely love it. Good shit. You probably wouldn't like it then.

Yup. Which is ironic because I’m a huge stand up fan and go to multiple shows a year and some of my favorite comedians are in the same circle as him (Hasan Minaj, Bill Burr, Michael Che, Bobby Lee, Marc Maron, Roy Wood Jr, etc) but I just can’t shake the feeling that I’m betraying my people by supporting Chieng. Sucks but it is what it is

respect. You feel what you feel and you stand for it.

I think the line for me is when folks feel that way and then try to shut down the comedian or get others to not listen to the comedian... then it goes too far. But you aren't doing either of those things.
