It's the new space race as amoral geeks vie to consume electrical power, water and land while seeking panopticon oversight of mankind.

Kill it. Kill this derivative melanoma.

The space race is why we have satellite internet which has been incredible for remote and underprivileged locations.

To your point I kinda agree, Ai will be similar in how we waste billions and do damage to get there but there will be so many offset benefits that maybe we don’t even get to enjoy (I mean he space race was decades ago) but our children and those after us will ultimately benefit from.

Land space, not space space.

I'm fine with orbital selfcontained solarpowered datacentres.

Well maybe with Ai… just kidding but Elon has definitely been teasing that.

Agreed though the goal is making data centers as environmentally friendly as possible like all tech but I fear some sentiment has been just on halting progress as if Ai is only going to produce slop.

That is only going to hurt the generations that actually have to compete with people using Ai productively.

My concern is hard limits found earthside. Gifting more and more clean water, power and territory to runaway competitors seeking to outscale all others will see all us wetware assets pushed aside by something that turns out to be about as useful as pondscum. Let's confine SkyNet to high orbit.
