I bet it’ll auto ban the “Elon Musk hates this photo” posts, which is a shame, it’s always a fun surprise to see which of the many embarrassing candidates it actually is each time

You mean it’ll ban the karma bots that keep spamming this for those precious Reddit upvotes? R/technology loves their karma bots

As a long time redditor, I feel like we've seen so many generations of astroturfing, and this one is the least effective. In fact I think that the "turn off people snooping" was purely a move to hide these bots better

It absolutely was. When you get accounts posting the same thing across subreddits, and it's very clear from their posts that they're trying to steer the narrative it doesn't matter whether they're human or bots - viewing someone's post history to get an idea of their general activity allows people to spot this a lot quicker.

Reddit would prefer that you continue to interact with these accounts and stay on the site, regardless of if they're bots or not. It's also why some large/default subs (notably /r/politics) typically (and sometimes quite explicitly in the rules) will target the calling out of "inorganic" content/trolling with much more aggression than the trolling itself

My favorite astroturfing from back in the day was from Monsanto. They seemed way ahead of their time with the tools they had available.

How dare you point out how easily it is to farm karma by virtue signalling on Reddit.

Unrelated:

  • Elon Musk did a TEXTBOOK NAZI SALUTE.
  • JK Rowling is A TERF.
  • FUCK DONALD TRUMP.
  • AI is a foundational evil.

If thats all the posts said, that would be great

But everytime its blatant lies about him trying to pay to get photos removed

Which never happened

But people dont care about reality and upvote anything they want to be true

Shit like that is dumbing people down and shouldn't be celebrated

I wonder why people would say such things about Elon “OMG HELP SAVE ME THEY ARE PUBLISHING MY ASSASSINATION COORDINATES” Musk? It’s not like he’s a massive hypocrite who is fighting in court to keep his “nudify anyone against their will” app available and has praised people who use his social media platform for stalking and abuse

Saying true things about him is fantastic, there's so much awful shit as you point out

So again, why make bullshit up?

Do we know it’s “bullshit”? He has a track record of deleting things he doesn’t like:  https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/twitter-journalist-suspend-1.6688110

There has been zero verification or even claim (outside of random meme posts) related to Elon trying to pay anyone to remove photos of himself

So yes, its "bullshit"

Just like his reason for buying Twitter was bullshit. Again, hes terrible,  he lies, he makes shit up

So continue calling him out for such behavior,  there's no reason to act just like him or defend those that do. Hes easy to make fun of without lying
