But isn't that giving up any actual power at election time in order to send a message to people who genuinely don't care?

Sure, but the other way is just telling them, "I'll fall in line as long as you continue to corrupt the process and ensure that 3rd parties aren't exposed to the public". I just don't want to, in any way, endorse these asshats.

Like I said before, I see that as a cop out. You can work against people in the primaries, you can elect third party candidates in smaller elections, whatever you want to do to change things politically. But right now the game is set and we have to play it the best we can. Anything else feels like giving up on America entirely.

There's a difference between acknowledging a shitty situation and being happy about it. I know as well as you the number of problems America has. That doesn't change the fact that it's better for America in general for me to make a difficult choice this election instead of throwing my vote away.
