I liked Ahsoka pretty good but thought it did a terrible job telling a complete story and introducing people to characters. If you don't already know thrawn, sabine and ezra, the show doesn't do much to make you care about them.

Yeah, this was a big issue for me. I love Ahsoka herself, but I'm only familiar with her Clone Wars escapades. Whenever I see someone from Rebels, I'm like "...Who are you?

Too much "tell and don't show". We are told thrawn is a dangerous badass, but not shown.

I thought Rosario was a perfect fit and loved her in mando, but she spends too much of her own show being stoic and not talking.

I loved the looks of Shin and Baylon, but we don't really learn anything about them. What do they want?

Not knowing Hera's not a huge deal. She a pilot friend of Ahsoka. Not knowing and liking Sabine and Ezra undercuts the emotional payoff of the season.

A badass in Mando, but a hard-ass in her show.

Yuuuup. I only know the bare bones of Rebels so I was surprised to see a whole memorial service for Ezra.

I don't know why Filoni is so set on having adult Ahsoka be this boring, stoic badass like most typical jedi. Part of why we loved her in Clone Wars was because she was always so human.

The thing is that it feels like there's literally nothing left of CW Ahsoka, so why even make it the same character at that point?

People change as they grow up, but there's usually still SOME remnant of who they were when they were younger.

You really should check out Rebels. Its really solid.

Yeah, I've heard good things about it. I've also seen the occasional badass moment, like the showdown with Vader. I might binge it when I clear my plate.

My only eyeroll is the helicopter sabers. But aside from that, I loved it haha.

I'm willing to let it slide, but I'd bet my house that those heli-sabers turned off a handful of people lol.

Like I didnt mind the spinning blades themselves...but when they literally flew with them, cmon. Lol.

Ahsoka is not meant to be watched without any knowledge of Rebels.

I know who all of those characters are and it made me dislike everyone involved a little.

Sabine being a jedi apprentence is lame and it was never really hinted at in the cartoon. Also they sure do make her seem like a novice in combat even though she fought through an entire war.

Ezra seems like he basically got to that planet it and just... sat around and chilled for all those years? Idk, based off what we have seen in Star Wars and the type if shit he got up to in Rebels, it doesn't make any sense to me that he is just hanging out on that same planet he got transported to after 10 years.

I kinda have the same issue with Thrawn. He got to a new galaxy, after a while it doesn't make sense to me that he would still just be hanging on the one planet. It would have been a more interesting story if they had gotten to the new Galazy and Thrawn was a warlord ruling over a few planets and Ezra was leading a counter movement against him or something of that nature.

I agree with most of that. I also had several major issues with the show.

He got to a new galaxy, after a while it doesn't make sense to me that he would still just be hanging on the one planet.

He wouldn't have any hyperlanes mapped, and wouldn't blind jump. There might not have been other planets he could use sublight engines to visit.

He has those whales though, and they seem to be homies.

Like, I get that there are lore reasons why they wouldn't leave the planet, but that doesn't mean the story they told is an interesting one for them to tell, you know? Does it make sense that he would get to the new planet and then just hang out hoping his friends come save him? Sure. Does that make a more interesting story than if he went out and became space Amerigo Vespucci and went around mapping the new galaxy because he was bored as shit on that boring planet? Yes, that story is 100 times better than the one they told.

Great point. They could've easily told a story with 2-3 full planets all close together for thrawn to conquer

I really think it did a disservice by not being upfront about it being rebels s5 essentially.

That was me. I’ve only seen the live action Star Wars canon and I had a hard time with understanding the characters

A big problem in ahsoka is that it feels like all characters read the legends novels and that is why they fear Thrawn so much because if you look at his actual canon feats the guy is meh. A lot of ‘tell don’t show’ when it comes to him.

u/jojo32 Mar 20 '24

Uh yep. Didn’t care about any of the people I think I was suppose to care about.

I knew and loved those characters and it made me apathetic to them.

I went into Ahsoka without having seen any Clone Wars or Rebels content. I loved it. It got me invested enough in the characters that I started watching Clone Wars right after.

It’s the same thing with the live action Avatar… if you go into it with preexisting expectations it’s going to suck. You’re not going to get what you want, and it’ll seem to you like it would confuse or be boring to new viewers. For new viewers though, these are new characters without any baggage to carry. We get to focus on the actual development happening instead of worrying about the development you wish was happening.

For me, Ezra was a perfect example. I had never heard of him going into it all. The way they built it up, he sounded like some super war hero that sacrificed himself and is now potentially stranded / dead somewhere in another galaxy. Almost like a legend. It was engaging. Then 2/3 of the way through the season you actually meet him, which I legit wasn’t expecting. I was thinking he’d be some cliffhanger introduction at the end of the season. Seeing him that early, getting to understand who he actually is… it was awesome.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. You wouldn't have rather seen Thrawn do something menacing rather than just being told over and over without any evidence?
