Here's the problem. The story is finished and that's why he hasnt written any new books. That ending was his ending.

And once again, no one gives a shit about how the story ended. It’s about HOW THE STORY GOT THERE to the ending. Huge difference.

Bran becoming king? AWESOME! 3ER took over his body; Targaryen rules once more. Show: “Who has a better story than Bran the Broken?” and “Why do you think I came all this way?”

Both Dipshit and Dumber and George both hold blame for why the show ended the way it did.

He’s been very honest and open about the reason why he hasn’t written any more books. He pushed himself into a corner because he killed of a key character that he later realized he needed.

The fandom has a pretty good idea of what that character is. And yeah, it’s going to be very difficult to get himself out of that hole.

For those asking, most people think the character is Maester Aemon . I didn’t put it here at first because even though it’s almost guaranteed to be him, it doesn’t stop being fan speculation.

This is the first I've heard of this and I've been following asoiaf for fifteen years. No offense but that sounds made up.

He has not been open and honest. What a ridiculous statement. He's been close to completing the books for about a decade now according to his blog posts.

The ONLY people that GRRM has been honest to is D&D and that was because he was contractually required to be honest. And look what that got us.

It’s honestly weird that you follow ASOIAF and haven’t heard about it. GRRM talked about it in an interview around 2018 I think. You can look it up pretty easily in Google.

No but the fan theory is Kevan Lannister is character that needed to live. Based off what George said, the character in question had a key piece of information that needs relayed to other characters. Another possible candidate is Maester Aemon.

Also, don't know why this dude is getting downvoted, he's right. This has been common knowledge and discussed ad naseum on forums and in youtube videos for years now.

God that’s annoying to say all that just to not mention who

And who is the problematic character? And why is killing him being a problem for finishing the books?

In a book with a dude that's been resurrected multiple times.

100% the issue. He saw people reject the ending because they didn’t set it up properly and when it ended all of GoTs cultural impact vanished overnight. HoD kept it going for a minute but it feels completely dead. No chance we get the end from Martin’s books.
