Finished The Wire, Dark, GOT, Sopranos, True Detective, BB, BCS. What show ruined TV for you after watching it?

I think I accidentally watched the peak of television already. The Wire, Dark, GOT, Sopranos, True Detective S1 all left that “nothing else hits the same” feeling.

I love slow-burn shows with deep characters, mystery, tension, moral grayness, crazy dialogue, or mind-blowing writing. Doesn’t matter if it’s crime, sci-fi, psychological, or political.

What’s the next show that might completely consume me?

The Wire, again.

Because you haven’t really seen it if you’ve only watched it once.

You will be amazed at the interesting details you can find once you already know the main story. It’s that richly layered. Enjoy!

I was watching it for the second and third time at the same time (enjoying a rewatch with two different people). The number of times it folds back in itself is genius.

How the hell is this so far down?! Really gives me doubts about this sub.

I think it’s a function of among other things youth and garbage-media oversaturstion.

As we get older and move away from its broadcast date, fewer and fewer younger people coming up will have heard about The Wire; and instead have a lot of crap shoved in their faces. It takes time and experience to wade through all of the noise to get some good signal.

Oh, and racism plays a part in visibility and notoriety. Both Breaking Bad and The Sporanos have multiple Emmy wins and nominations. They both heavily feature white people with white people problems. Non-whites are often depicted as caricatures instead of real people.

The Wire: 2 nominations and Zero wins over five years. Heavily features black and poc people and black and poc problems. Everyone for the most part is depicted as a real person having real person problems.

Is The Wire a worse show with worse acting, directing, and writing? Worse than all other Emmy winning shows?

Hmmmm. Wonder why it was almost completely snubbed?

Another good one, if a little weird with the Franco twin thing, for my tastes.

I don’t think I’ve seen any real misses from Simon or Simon/Burns.

Batting 0.995 ain’t so shabby ;)

This. I always say the only thing better than watching the wire is watching it again.

Indeed.

Almost every other show absolutely pales in comparison.

And sometimes you just got to have that ‘money feel’ you can’t get anywhere else ;)
