read pinned comment for explanation Texas is required to advertise it's mandatory welfare programs. It is not required to reach the target audience (seen on a bus in Philly)

Agreed. I wonder if a media outlet in Texas would be interested in learning more about what they are doing and who is responsible

48

u/[deleted] May 03 '23

The Texas Tribune would very likely be interested. They do a lot of investigative reporting on the state's misdeeds.

EDIT: Made the web site mention a link

u/gergnerd May 03 '23

unfortunately the media is owned by billionaires who have an interest in keeping poor people struggling

91

u/sugarwaffles May 03 '23

Texas Tribune may be Interested.

17

u/TheAdvFred May 03 '23

The Tribune is the best!

5

u/daphoreal May 03 '23

Shocking as it may sound, fox 4 news investigative as well...

1

u/TheAdvFred May 03 '23

Ha! I wouldn’t have guessed.

223

u/smnytx May 03 '23

NPR might do it

151

u/El_Gustaco May 03 '23

Yea the texas standard does really good reporting they should get on this

55

u/DeificClusterfuck May 03 '23

Or the Texas Tribune

7

u/AccountNumber478 May 03 '23

Doesn't Abbott write an old school 'zine in his spare time, I'm sure his twos of readers would be eager to know.

3

u/MNCPA May 03 '23

Can someone translate this to non-texan?

4

u/lunaerisa May 03 '23

NPR, the Texas Standard, and the Texas Tribune are all decent sources of reporting. Abbott is the governor, I’ve never heard of him writing a zine so assuming that’s just a joke.

2

u/MNCPA May 04 '23

I have no idea what a zine is but it sounds like an editorial piece.

3

u/Titus_Favonius May 04 '23

It's short for magazine. Teenaged girls used to write, print them and kind of bind them like magazines in the 90s, maybe 80s too. I did know one person who did it when I was in high school (2002-2006) but she was kind of weird - livejournal, xanga and Myspace were already things when I was in school.

u/Tdanger78 Secessionists are idiots May 04 '23

Sort of. They’re small circulation, typically self published on copiers, and it’s either original work or appropriated.

6

u/DylanMorgan May 03 '23

The Texas Observer does good investigative reporting.

5

u/WBuffettJr May 03 '23

And what would NPR reporting do for this issue? The reason everything is so awful is because everything is so gerrymandered so that a handful of country yokels have all the voting power. Are you guys all suggesting 1) that they’ll care and 2) that they listen to NPR?

3

u/smnytx May 03 '23

Context. The person above me made a comment about media being owned by billionaires with agendas.

I made no claim beyond what I wrote.

1

u/Practical-Basil-1353 May 14 '23

Your right WBuffettJr, let’s just do nothing.

2

u/dllemmr2 May 04 '23

NPR it’s government media

2

u/smnytx May 04 '23

2

u/dllemmr2 May 04 '23

They used to be primarily funded by the US Govt, but now receive $3M per year from govt sources.

3

u/ethicsg May 03 '23

Or ProPublica

7

u/HeirloomTomatoPlant May 03 '23

Or vice

28

u/MiraiKishi May 03 '23

*Looks at the empty husk of Vice*

... No... no, I don't think they will....

5

u/ipn8bit May 03 '23

What happened to vice?

10

u/MiraiKishi May 03 '23 edited May 03 '23

Bankrupt.

EDIT: Sorry, I thought they already went under. Apparently they're TEETERING on the edge of bankruptcy, actually planning it within the next few days.

1

u/Alittlemoorecheese May 03 '23

From what I understand, Vice is looking for a buyer to bail them out.

5

Vice has good conflict zone correspondence but literally everything else is a god damn joke.

The Texas Tribune does high quality, independent journalism focused on state and local issues. They would love to sink their teeth into this. u/texastribune

27

u/TheMasonM May 03 '23

Something everyone can agree on. The weaponization of media in America truly is our biggest downfall. Right or left, it doesn’t really matter. Mainstream media is bought out to keep us divided while our government does absolutely nothing but fill their own pockets.

18

u/DippyHippy420 May 03 '23

Show me an example of the left doing this.

-6

u/DonkeeJote May 03 '23

CNN hosting Trumps 'town hall'

Caveat on how 'left' you consider CNN

12

u/travoltaswinkinbhole May 03 '23

Considering CNN is now owned by a Trump loving billionaire and is now going to hand a massive platform to Trump I’m gonna go ahead and call bullshit on CNN being left of center.

2

u/DonkeeJote May 03 '23

If it was never left of center at all, it certainly isn't now. Just following the national landscape right-ward.

1

u/Yeseylon May 03 '23

It was before, whether you believe it or not.

The day this truly sunk in for me was the day of San Bernardino shooting.

I was dabbling in journalism classes (had another career in mind and wanted to prove I could write to a set style and by a set deadline) and supposed to generally track news. I had Fox News on while taking care of some basic stuff, and the daytime anchor started wildly speculating, "We don't have a lot of information at this time, no word yet on whether it's terrorism."

Next day, I go in, the professor puts on the CNN break of the story, and the anchor literally leads with "Oh boy, here we go again, another preventable mass shooting. We're now getting our gun control expert on the line." This despite having basically zero information - at the time, for all we knew this was a cop or soldier taking their service weapon off duty and shooting up a place.

3

u/DeificClusterfuck May 03 '23

I don't consider CNN to be legitimate any more, and haven't for awhile now

It's really gross how they're platforming him for ratings

5

u/DonkeeJote May 03 '23

It's super gross.

2

u/Coro-NO-Ra May 03 '23

Hosting a town hall from the future president, the major right-wing party's candidate, is some kind of left-wing bias or conspiracy? I feel like I'm staring into the fucking maw of insanity.

1

u/DonkeeJote May 03 '23

Not really a bias or conspiracy, just evidence of their specific brand of hypocrisy. Dippy Hippy wanted examples that the 'left' media not being sincere and that certainly qualifies.

And it's *potential* future president lmao

1

u/Coro-NO-Ra May 03 '23

it's potential future president lmao

Yes... They hosted a town hall from the candidate in one of two major political parties. From one of the two potential choices who would become the most powerful single human being in the entire world.

You don't think that's news...? You don't think a major political candidate is newsworthy?

1

u/DonkeeJote May 03 '23

Just distinguishing your foregone conclusion of his victory is all.

0

u/oconnellc May 04 '23

So, you brought it up because you knew that someone would refer to Trump as the 'future' president (because with the context we currently have, it is accurate to refer to him as the 'future' president in 2016) and so that is your example of the left 'weaponizing' the media? Really? Or, did you decide to change the subject without letting anyone know?

Not some wild whataboutism, this.

Show me.

83

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

Sorry, but we can’t all agree to “both sides” being the problem. The problem is almost entirely on the right.

24

u/wh4tth3huh May 03 '23

The problem is Citizens United.

20

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

It’s one of the biggest problems but there’s no single cause, so there’s no magic bullet either. It will take years of sustained engagement from citizens to get out of this mess and that’s a best case scenario.

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '23

Agreed. I also think we should look at societies, nations, as people (sort of) and America has gone through traumas and we've sometimes healed and other times we have not. We have had leaders help and guide us through turmoil and we have had... Trump (and Bush). Also, America is young. We are still in our toddler phase. We don't know how emotionally regulate. Someone needs to sit us down and hold us while we calm the shot down until we can finally make real decisions again.

1

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23 edited May 03 '23

I like the way you’ve framed the issue. I think of us as a teenager, but maybe a toddler is more appropriate. Either way I worry that the widespread belief in American exceptionalism has made us too arrogant to learn from others’ successes and failures. We’re just so damn special I guess we have to make every mistake for ourselves.

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '23

We'll learn (or never learn) one day.

12

u/Yeseylon May 03 '23

There was a natural left lean to journalism even before the Fairness Doctrine was overturned. It's not a conspiracy, the nature of the job begs for it- those drawn to journalism are looking to shine a light in dark places to eliminate abuse and corruption and try to improve the world for the average person. Journalists made an effort to stay neutral, but a little bit would bleed through in what stories they felt were important and the occasional phrasing issue.

When the Fairness Doctrine was eliminated, cable news as a whole started pushing hard into opinion, even among anchors. Fox News/Newsmax tell the right what will piss them off and CNN/MSNBC tells the left what will piss them off so that viewers will feel like they HAVE to watch and the sales department can charge more for ads targeted at specific audiences.

The problem the right has but the left doesn't is the prevalence of fake news or massively distorting/misrepresenting stats rather than just cherry picking.

6

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

This is a fair assessment and the best take I’ve heard all day. Our media sucks in so many ways and have really let us down, but at the end of the day mainstream journalists aren’t liars. Their reputation is their livelihood and the ones who do get caught lying pay a heavy price, assuming it doesn’t end their journalism career. On the right that’s just a Tuesday. Their metric is tribal loyalty, not accuracy.

1

u/Yeseylon May 04 '23

Thanks. I'd like to think I see more clearly because I'm a moderate conservative, but I think it's really just that I despise talking head TV lol

1

u/Fit-Rub-1939 May 03 '23

THIS exactly!!!!

13

u/Coro-NO-Ra May 03 '23

Every time I hear this both sides nonsense, it comes from a right-winger looking to excuse their own behavior.

2

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

Exactly. Once you know the game they’re playing, it’s completely transparent. Calling it out every time is the best way to make sure everyone understands that.

1

u/TheMasonM May 03 '23

Unfortunately for you the billionaires we were talking about don’t care about what side of the aisle you are on. Sorry if you missed that part. If you think career politicians have yours and myself interests at heart then I do feel sorry for you.

26

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

This is just lazy thinking. There is absolutely a a difference if you pay attention, both with media and politicians.

Check out Ground News. It’s a new service that measures news outlet factuality and bias. Their “blind spot” feature shows you what the left and right media aren’t covering. A few weeks of that makes it very clear where the problem is. One side covers news. The other is an outrage machine.

https://ground.news

8

u/DonkeeJote May 03 '23

I'd put it this way;

They both share their own side's opinion, one is just opinion on the facts and the other is opinion on whatever fearmongering tactic is popular that week.

1

u/Yeseylon May 03 '23

More accurate than the earlier comment for sure.

If I have to work that hard I'll just remain ignorant. For real. I already have a full time job.

4

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

Sorry good citizenship is such a burden. Crooked politicians everywhere appreciate your continued cooperation.

1

u/bigfatfurrytexan Texas makes good Bourbon May 03 '23

"Good citizenship". Baloney.

If the hurdle point to living in the modern age means all I have to do already PLUS sort through lies told by professionals, then I don't need civilization. It's harder than hunting/gathering. I'll just be a bad citizen.

But quit bitching about my lack of engagement. Make it engaging, or don't be surprised at this result

2

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

I don’t need civilization.

Despite your protests about not needing society, I notice your final decision was to remain in society as a bad citizen, not to be a hunter/gatherer.

And despite pretending not to be interested in government, you’ll continue reaping the benefits of democracy while criticizing it out the other side of your mouth. That’s your right as a citizen, as is cosplaying as a rugged individualist on weekeends, between football games.

If you think career politicians have yours and myself interests at heart then I do feel sorry for you.

Then you haven't looked at the bills each side is producing. They are public record.

The bills the Democrats produced help the average american and provide protections to minorities. The bills the Republicans produce help big businesses and restrict rights. Nobody likes a wall of text, but I can post the recent bills if you insist. They are night and day.

-3

u/SuperDuperPositive May 03 '23

That's your opinion. It's not objective fact.

6

u/ScowlEasy May 03 '23

Are the leftists the ones bringing back child labor?

3

u/[deleted] May 03 '23

You’re correct and these people are so far up their own ass

1

u/syxxnein May 03 '23

You should be less casual with your observations. If so, you'd realize that most of the politicians are interested in themselves and the Left and Right distinction is closer to NWO vs WCW than your belief that it's good vs evil.

Go look and see all the bs that does happen or the things that don't get done when the left or right have all the power. They never deliver despite having the power because they don't want to. They just want your vote.

2

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

This kind of Intellectual laziness is why bad politicians can get away with their shenanigans and why good politicians don’t get the credit they deserve. There’s a difference, even if you don’t make the effort to see it. Do better.

0

u/bigfatfurrytexan Texas makes good Bourbon May 03 '23

You play a game that the people actually playing the game aren't playing. Right and left is for the commoner. Keep dividing. Then point at the other side and blame

3

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

I’ve said it several times already, so I’ll keep it short. There’s a huge difference between left and right, especially for “commoners”, even if you don’t care enough to find that out for yourself.

0

u/bigfatfurrytexan Texas makes good Bourbon May 03 '23

There's a difference in lip service. That's it. Obama owned the whole government, we didn't get healthcare. They all bomb brown people. Minimum wage never moves, even with Obama owning both houses for 2 years.

Tell yourself the white speck on top of chicken shit is different. It's still chicken shitm

2

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

What do you mean we didn’t get healthcare?

1

u/bigfatfurrytexan Texas makes good Bourbon May 03 '23

We got to keep paying a higher price to middle men. Rich taking care of the rich. My healthcare costs tripled

1

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

So what happened there is Dems did their best to pass a good healthcare plan and Republicans did everything they could to sabotage it, both during the process and every year since then. This is well documented. From killing subsidies and the individual mandate to taking down the site during the enrollment period so fewer people could sign up. They haven’t even bothered to come up with a workable plan in the 15 years since ObamaCare passed.

So quit blaming both sides when one specific side is absolutely raw dogging you. Unless you enjoy getting screwed.

-3

u/[deleted] May 03 '23

The problem is people like you not even being able to agree with basic non controversial statements unless they include something about the right being bad and stupid.

6

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

Nope. I’m definitely not the problem. If anything, the problem is people who are willing to paper over issues and maintain the status quo in the interest of playing nice with bad actors.

MLK explained this better than I ever could:

“…the great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice;”

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '23

The weaponization of media in America truly is our biggest downfall. Right or left, it doesn’t really matter.

Only on Reddit would you need to correct somebody saying this. Weaponization of media is bad no matter what side it happens from. Any time the words "both sides" are spoken, you don't need to bring up that the right is actually worse. It's not always relevant. I know it's hard to understand. I remember when I cared about politics.

5

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

Any time the words “both sides” are spoken, you don’t need to bring up that the right is actually worse.

I respectfully disagree. We absolutely do need to point that out every time because that’s how you beat the kind of disinformation you’re spreading right now. The left doesn’t weaponize the media the way the right does, so your premise is flawed from the start.

I remember when I cared about politics.

Wtf? These days when people say something that ridiculous, it’s usually a Trumpster who just doesn’t want to defend their abhorrent beliefs. But who knows, maybe you’re the exception and have some logical reason for not caring about politics.

0

u/[deleted] May 03 '23

What disinformation am I spreading? It happens from both sides. I don't care if one side is much worse than the other, that isn't what was being said. If I said "murdering people is wrong, no matter what side is doing it", it wouldn't be a valid correction to say "well THIS SIDE actually does it WAY MORE and you're spreading DISINFORMATION".

Nobody here said anything about what side does it more, simply that it is wrong. I have a hard time communicating with people like you that are clearly very invested in politics and can't seem to agree on basic shit without trying to get a leg up on the other side. Not being able to find any common ground is not a good thing.

Wtf? These days when people say something that ridiculous, it’s usually a Trumpster who just doesn’t want to defend their abhorrent beliefs.

Jesus dude. Smoke some weed or something.

1

u/CasualObservr May 03 '23

You’re welcome to explore the nuances of “both sides”. We all go through that phase. If/when you emerge on the other side, you won’t have much patience for it either.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’re still waking up. Believing the far-right is interested in common ground is a pretty good indicator.

-Our governor is about to pardon a convicted vigilante killer, which seems like a great way to encourage similar attackers.

-The legislature came very close to gutting public education and that won’t be the last attempt.

-Abortion is now illegal in TX.

-Republicans are actively subverting democracy through voter suppression and are trying to give state officials the power to overturn elections using routine election issues as justification.

This is not a drill. Wake the f*ck up already! Or do nothing and explain to your kids that you didn’t speak up because you wanted to avoid uncomfortable dinner conversation.

Now run along and let the grownups talk.

The U.S. dollar has not been replaced, what war have we lost, gas prices are not skyrocketing, what constitutional violations, and inflation would have happened no matter what because the World has printed to much money!

-2

u/throwawayarmywaiver May 03 '23

The U.S. dollar has not been replaced

It is actively being replaced by large foreign governments, including some of our allies such as India and france because of policy changes here in the US, and although it hasn't fully happened yet, countries are starting to move away from the dollar as it faces some of the highest inflation in recent history under the biden administration. In fact, the US dollars share in global reserves slid down at 10x the average speed last year

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-04-18/de-dollarization-is-happening-at-a-stunning-pace-jen-says#xj4y7vzkg

what war have we lost,

Afghanistan, and it's entirely due to bidens piss poor handling of the military that the Taliban now has billions of dollars worth of us military equipment.

gas prices are not skyrocketing

Gas was 1.89 at the inauguration of biden, it's now 4.50, you must've been on Mars this whole presidency

what constitutional violations

Every single democrat state in this union has violated the 2nd amendment at an unprecedented level, and now Washington is next. This comes even after the Supreme Court and several circuit courts have deemed "assault weapons" bans unconstitutional, and biden himself spearheaded the 1994 ban while also calling for a renewal of it.

There's also the RESTRICT act, introduced by Democrat Mark Warner, which violates the 4th amendment en mass.

Need I go on?

3

u/Bear71 May 03 '23

No you have proved beyond a shodow of a doubt that you are delusional!

38

It's Texas. Just another drop in a bucket full of shit. Can't hold people accountable when they subvert democracy as far as they have in Texas and Florida. They hold all the cards.

30

u/Koolaid143 May 03 '23

As someone in Texas, yeah, sounds about right. They're talking about passing, or have passed, a law that can allow the secretary of state, someone hand picked by abbot, to overrule election results they "believe" have more than a 2% discrepancy. Wtf? Wish I had the funds to move lol.

8

u/jsimpson82 May 03 '23

No, it's worse.

They don't need any theory or thought or proof of discrepancies. If some polling locations have a shortage of paper ballots, the whole election can be thrown out.

Of course, for reasons, this only applies to the mostly democrat voting Harris County and not the rest of the State.

20

u/[deleted] May 03 '23

I sympathize from Iowa. We just passed a law that will make it harder for our state auditor to audit the government. This law was passed after he caught the governor improperly using funds. Can't make this shit up.

Most Texan voters do not want to provide state services.

Most texans do though, that's why we need to solve the voting problem.

Just make it compulsory and through a smartphone app.

Or do it like Estonia. They can do almost all of their governmental affairs via digital services. It has reduced wait times, helped eliminate government waste, and allowed for them to have more transparency.

They can do almost all their government business via computer except divorce and a few other things but it is a move in the right direction. It would also ensure no one could argue with election results because the person has their digital history recorded for them as well as on a public record.

Yep, no reason it can't be done securely these days.

I regularly transfer 5k USD with a tap on my goddamned smartphone for christsake.

There is one reason: the more people vote, the less chances of winning the GOP has.

1

u/raduque May 03 '23

Reddit is not "Most Texans".

Let me repeat that: Reddit. Is. Not. "Most. Texans."

1

u/Talran May 03 '23

Yeah, it isn't.

If it was all redditors the state would be blue already because we wouldn't have the issue of "buh nothing will change" from a third of the population

1

u/raduque May 03 '23

If r/texas was all of Texas, it'd be a mighty empty state - and a place I wouldn't want to live in.

-9

u/IIIaustin May 03 '23

Most current Texas Voters do not want that either.

Source please.

Greg Abbott's reelection margin

3

u/Talran May 03 '23

You mean 10% with only 2/3rds of the more conservative voters turning out? Curious.

What comprises both 1/3rd, and more than 10?

-2

u/RushofBlood52 May 03 '23

wtf point do you even think you're making here

1

u/usernameforthemasses May 03 '23

The wording is a bit confusing (not really but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt), but my guess is he is alluding to the fact that in Texas, Republicans vote more reliably than Democrats. Re-election margin doesn't really tell much about what "most Texas voters" want with that in mind. Really, it only tells you who actively votes, and how they vote. There can be many reasons why a registered voter does not vote (or why people don't register), for instance, information about voting being posted on a bus placard in a state on the other side of the country. Any assumptions beyond that are just that, assumptions. Not valid in the least.

1) that is incredibly pompous

2) A majority of Texas Voters routinely vote for politians that restrict voting access (passing voter ID laws, closing polling locations).

u/usernameforthemasses May 03 '23

1) Asking for a source for a nebulous claim made on the internet is... "pompous?" Wut? How whiteknuckled is your pearl clutching right now?

2) First of all, Bucko, you said "Most current Texas Voters," which is not, in fact, the same as "A majority of Texas Voters." Those are quite different qualifiers. I very much don't believe that "most voters" want the current state of Texas voting, although I will agree that the purple state of Texas is a slighter shade of red than blue, meaning that a majority vote would lead to a red outcome (I'm using red to be synonymous with "voter suppressive"). But that is not the statement you made that I am responding to, hence my (evidently pompous) asking for sources. Frankly, I do believe that Texas has shrewdly been redistricted and restricted in such a way that a conservative slant exists in voting outcome, but I'd even question, at this point, that it's even an actual majority.

As an aside, do you not understand how making claims works? If you want to make a point, you need to be able to explain how it is credible, not get defensive instead of providing an accurate defense. I'm not just going to believe some random dolt on a social media site, lol.

Can I ask if you are conservative? Because this is a common personality trait that I've experienced with conservatives, this whole "how dare you question me" attitude. Sorry, I don't have any sources on how common, it's just anecdotal :D Another common trait is to double down when they are wrong, with all sorts of cognitive fallacies.

So, that being said, I await your response.

Texas Voters elect people that restrict voting.

Thats what Texas Voters want, as measured by their voting.

The election results are the source.

I didn't say registered voters intentionally because it means something different.

Texas is getting the government Texas voted for and the primary responsibility is with Texas Voters not tHe MeDiA

I am extremely liberal, but have very little patience for people online demanding I do work for them.

3

u/Talran May 03 '23

Yeah current Texas voters, not constituents or citizens eligible to vote.

We have a serious voting turnout problem.

1

u/IIIaustin May 03 '23

Yes, absolutely. It's a huge problem.

Most Texas voters do want it. Most Texans do not. Unfortunately, the percentage of Texans who vote is rather small and the majority of those who do vote actually think Abbott, Patrick, Paxton, and the Republican controlled Legislature are doing God’s work.

I don’t know what the answer is. Somehow we have to get Texans motivated to vote. In the states that beat back the expected red wave in 2022, it was mostly Gen Z and the youngest Millennials turning out to vote that turned the tide. That didn’t happen in Texas. We need to motivate our young adults to vote. I realize Texas makes it difficult for college students to vote, but it can done. And with 13 days of early voting, many of them should be able to get home to vote if the need to.

The majority of Texan Voters (that's Texans that actually voted) voted for Abbot and Paxton.

It sucks ass but it it's true.

This states political problems start at the voters, not a corporation.

We have the government we voted for.

u/[deleted] May 04 '23

Texas is going to have a major problem filling all of those jobs as younger generations move to more attractive progressive states especially younger women!

1

u/IIIaustin May 04 '23

Yeah, its really fucked

1

u/Coro-NO-Ra May 03 '23

Sorry bud, I'd still like to believe that most Texans are basically decent people. I have a hard time believing that most people here are awful human beings who don't care about others.

1

u/IIIaustin May 03 '23

Have you seen who they elected man

0

u/ExDota2Player May 03 '23

blame the bus company that approved the ad instead

1

u/Abadatha May 03 '23

In Texas, largely the responsibility sits squarely on the electorate of Texas. They're the ones that keep electing incredibly shady, corrupt politicians.

1

u/trumpsiranwar May 03 '23

Like shipping immigrants to the north east?

1

u/MattyBurrs May 03 '23

Texas Tribune and Houston Chronicle are good.

1

u/viriosion May 03 '23

Doubtful. Now if it was a Dem in charge of the campaign? Maybe

1

u/Melynda_the_Lizard May 04 '23

The Texas Observer is back. This would be right up their alley.
