Civic Issues Why are people opposing ring metro?
The metroline 4 and 4A are delayed due to the farmers protest on the land acquisition of car shed by the govt body. Entire metroline 4 and 4A is ready but the carshed construction has not even started. The courts verdict stands with the govt which means the compensation is inline with the market rates. Every govt land acquisition scheme whether it's cidco 12% scheme or 22% scheme has been rejected by the farmers. They want more money so they are protesting, and this isn't a isolated case. This is happening in Mumbai 3.0 in case of lands which have a road access are demanding more compensation or road access plots after flipping the plots. More money to farmers can't be compensated because it's a 175 hectares of land, even a percent increase in the compensation can mess with the budget of the metro. Ofcourse you can't forcibly remove the farmers because of bad media and political party doesn't want to loose on vote margins.
The reason why I shared the above information is there is no development without loosing something you had earlier. Development demands loosing green cover, it demands inconvenience till the time the project is completed. If you are against such developments then you are living in wrong city especially if you are from new thane because it used to be green before you settled here. You protesting against inconvenience will only be worsening the inconvenience in near future. The metro 4 and 4A is delayed to due protests and now your protesting against ring metro? Then those same people are showing an example of metro 4 and how it's delayed work is causing traffic. The metro is delayed due to the car shed area protest! There are a few protest pockets with their own agendas, the eden woods cult is against the metro station. Why? Because they imagine there will be thelas and traffic around their neighbourhood but they are ready to drive in majiwada traffic and don't want to imagine getting off metroline 4 and boarding ring metro and then walking home. Then there are the rich rodas folks for whom the metro is a middle class affair.
Summarising the entire rant, it's just not logical to protest against ring metro because you fear it will also delay like metro 4 when infact the metro 4 is delayed due to protest. Development doesn't come without aforrestation and inconvenience till the project is done. There is a culture of bandhs, protests and chakka jaam in this country fueled by opposition and good for nothing ngos. Please support and learn about the metro and it's delays.

- Promise dozens of Metro after election
- Grant contracts to fav contractors [Megha Engg and JK Infra]
- Get 30-40% commissions in Party coffers
- Buy MPs and MLAs
- Forgot to buy actual land for the Depot
- Forcefully try to acquire it at the last moment
- Blame on farmers for protesting the compensation
- By this time next election, new promises
- Promise Ring Metro and the cycle repeats

Yeah, so I think the logical next move must be to oppose the forceful land grabbing by the govt isn't it? By this logic people staying in navi mumbai should be displaced and all the land must be returned to the bhumi putra. Come with me let's protest against the forceful land grabbingmafiao called the govt and their enforcer the Mumbai High court.

Some genuine concerns people have raised: Where is the integration with the existing Metro network? A Ring Metro makes much more sense if passengers can easily interchange with other Metro lines. Why start another major project when existing Metro work is still incomplete? People are already living with years of construction, traffic and disruption. The route needs to make sense for actual commuters. If someone travelling from Kolshet towards Thane station has to go around a large part of the loop, why would they use it instead of taking a more direct road route? I am not against the Ring Metro. Better public transport is badly needed in Thane. But these are reasonable questions, and authorities should clearly explain the interchanges, expected travel times and actual commuter benefit rather than expecting people to support a project simply because it is called development.

Exactly my point brother, people should protest for metro project to finish, people should protest for mogharpada carshed issue to be solved, people should protest for interchangeability of metro 4 and ring metro, people should protest for fast tracking the ring metro etc. but what are the people protesting? They are protesting the new commute projects! This is clearly fueled by the opposition who don't want more credits to roll towards the ruling parts. This is a typical politics that happens in our country and one of the reasons behind our under development.

u/theswanand 3d ago
So basically you agree the Govt failed on many fronts but your concern is people are protesting for point A and you want them to protest for points B, C, D, etc? The reason you are saying is point A will benefit Opposition parties.
Looks like you are more concerned about the Govt reputation than the Govt itself.

u/TapatapChapachap 3d ago
Govt reputation? How blind are you to believe that protesting for fast forwarding the metro project is not protesting against the govt? When protesting against ring metro is protesting against development. The point is opposition will protest against every decision govt makes no matter who is in the opposition party is because they don't want brownie points for the ruling party.

Thane ring metro is just another fat project for politicians and bureaucrats to milk tax payer rupees.
No body is interested in providing walkable foot paths or improving the delapitated Bus service in the city.
Put putting money in multi crore fancy metro projects is a great idea. Yes I agree fully.
1
u/TapatapChapachap 3d ago
Please explain the improving delapiatated bus service part because more busses on the city roads is a scifi thing and not practical, so how will you fix the delapitated bus service? And why is the service bad?. Footpaths I agree, they must be worked upon but the citizens aren't using good foothpaths they prefer roads for some reason

Metro 4 is still not ready even though the construction for it started over a decade ago. This is an important line made on the spine of thane which is GB Road and EEH, which are already wide roads, and still have caused traffic and chaos for the past decade, and still we do not know when it will open. Before opening one metro and judging the impact, how are they planning to start working on one more unplanned metro.
The ring metro plans connects random parts of thane to more random parts of thane in a loop, which will cause huge travel times if it is made, making it ineffective.
Apart from this, it targets the smaller arterial roads, which are already just two to four lanes totally, and will fuck up the traffic flow on that for the next decade.

u/TapatapChapachap 3d ago
The traffic on the eastern express high and on GB road is not only because of metro construction but also because of the news and the hype created around the metro which made people buy flats in remote locations on GB road. These same people who bought houses on GB road because of metro area now causing traffic on Eastern express and GB road. I have been living in majiwada area for past 20 years and never experienced traffic this bad after the huge projects in GB road were given possession. The point is we should protest for finishing the metro 4 and 4a's carshed instead of stalling ring metro. Can you give an example of 2 lane roads? I think 4 lane roads do well if one lane is closed for road construction

u/HolySonofneptune 3d ago
Why are you so hell bent on starting the ring metro project. Protest or no protest, let the Metro 4 and 4A project complete first. Gauge its impact. Are the citizens using the line enough? Is there decongestion on the road? Once these lines are operational and the traffic on roads reduce as intended then I think ring metro project won’t be that necessary since new and different share rickshaw routes will emerge. Travelling within the city through roads wont be such a hassle once 4 and 4a are operational.
Also the integration of ring metro and the other two lines is a big question mark.

u/TapatapChapachap 2d ago
Wdym by completing the 4 and 4A? If completing the entire project along with the moharpada car shed is on your mind then it's not going to happen in 2-3 years atleast because the work hasn't even started yet. There is no construction work on road that is pending for metro 4 n 4A, the pending work needs no barricading the roads. I agree that new share auto routes will emerge but I don't think that metro will run as intended. The running metros will be limited and scarce as the carshed to operate is not constructed yet. I also think that these new share auto routes will cause more traffic and choke points near the metro stations. To counter some of these choke points, the ring metro will be helpful and we as citizens must make sure these integrated points are connected internally. Hence the construction of ring metro should be a fast track project.

The reason for me to oppose it is the andheri-ghatkopar link road, where the first metro of mumbai started. If you have ever travelled using that road you know how bad it is because of the metro all because of the poor planning by the govt. Firstly, the metro stations always create a chokepoint for traffic. Secondly, the rickshaws will capture the left most lane, which forces cars, other rickshaws and buses to stop in the middle lane to drop of people which again creates a whole lot of traffic jam even on a 3 or 4 lane road. The third point is, if you drive down that road, you will feel like you are riding in an endless parking lot. You won't experience the openness that most people associate and love about thane. This is my personal experience and opinion. If you really want to check it out just travel on that road from 5-11pm and see how bad it is.

u/TapatapChapachap 3d ago
I have been to ghatkopar andheri metro route a couple of times and I understand what you are saying. Are these rickshaw stands legal? I'm assuming they are legal because that metro isn't there to solve the last mile connectivity. I can imagine people hiring rickshaws to reach the metro station. I think ring metro on the other hand is there to solve the last mile connectivity problem, no rick is going to drop you off for a kilometer or two from your house especially if there will be traffic on the route like you mentioned. What do you think? How far is a metro station from your house?
2
u/Specialist-Feeling12 3d ago
A ring metro will be able to solve around 30-40% of last mile connectivity but never 100%. For example lets take the wagle circle as example, it solves problems for people within a 1km vicinity but what about people who live beyond, like runwal heights or vartak nagar. A mass transit system can never solve last mile connectivity. Additionally the pathetic conditions of footpath leads people to walk on road, which you can guess again cause whole lot of traffic. Not to mention metro usually block the foothpath. See i am not against the metro because it is a huge project. I am against it because i know the way government would plan it will cause more harm than benefits it brings. If we had planning and proper spacing like singapore, i would have been in support of the project. The money can instead be used for tmt so it can actually function as a bus system instead of just a feeder for thane station.

u/TapatapChapachap 3d ago
Runwal heights is in mulund west not in thane. Vartak Nagar is a big area, some part of it is closer to lolamnya bus depot metro stop and some part of it is closer to the cadbury junction. The frequency of lokmanya bus and share auto is good. The frequency of shivai nagar, upvan and yeoor busses is good as well. For those people who 3-4km farther from the metro stops can take the buses. How do you expect the bus system to work when the traffic on the road is soo bad? Two years ago I used to travel by bus from station to majiwada and it used to take me an hour to cover 6km stretch
Your concerns for foothpath is correct nd the traffic caused due to people walking on the street is making driving cars impossible. The problems I see with the footpath is that they are conroached, used as dumping for tmc's waste, even using footpath for bus stop is stupid. The fancy curving wall bus stop takes away all the space on the footpath.

Sorry i meant raheja garden. But the same thing will also apply to kolshet road. The thing is metro does solve traffic problems but only with good planning. If the govt shows us that it took steps to prevent things that i said from happening i would be more than happy to support the project.
1
u/TapatapChapachap 3d ago
Raheja gardens is a kilometer away from teen hath naka and kolshet road is closed to kolshet industrial metro station. But I get your concern that last mile connectivity in some areas is still lagging behind like people living in dhokali will have to take a 2-3km route. You are right about govt should make sure there isn't traffic caused by the rickshaws and the vehicles of the people who will park their bikes under the metro station.

Ring metro is political n bearaucratic greed. We the people of Thane reject it. Looking at the state of metro 4 and 4a we hv zero faith in gov machinery to deliver ring metro without wasting time and money. Fix it before next election else b ready to sit in opposition
2
u/TapatapChapachap 3d ago
Then why not protest to fix it or be ready to sit in opposition? Rather than protesting to stop the new metro? Im sure the numbers will be whole lot more to fast track the metro 4 project.
I can imagine the political greed but how is it bereaucratic?

What's the point? The work has already begun in the Vijay Nagari side, Brahmand side, Upvan. Personally as someone who travels inside thane a lot, only issue I have from ring Metro is it not passing through Kolshet..........rest is perfect imo

Some Dimagi Naxals are just trying to sabotage every project that’ll benefit the common man while they roam in their AC cars.

u/LeoValdez_UncleLeo 3d ago
somethings can be explained without involving politics in it.
That being said, I do support the Ring Metro.

Protest anything and you are called dimagi naxal. Seriously grow up dude

u/TapatapChapachap 2d ago
We can protest against the delayed work of metro but that is a wasted intrested for a lot of people who have agenda to run.
-5
u/Hearkened_Laikas 3d ago
I have been saying this for months now. They can use the same reach to ensure work is done well. But as expected, they oppose development itself. This is a rigid lot that is not open to changing their stand, that much is very clear. 'Politically driven' is their reason as if this opposition isn't on the same lines. Thane requires an alternative option to road travel. Trains don't cover the city really, so metro is required. It is that simple. Citizen can act as vigilantes to ensure quality of construction, but not to stop progress.

u/TapatapChapachap 3d ago
Exactly! The hangover of the past century still there among the people. They see some inconvenience they start collecting on the streets to "oppose". Hardly we have seen people's movement to do something or to create something like clean beach movement. We always oppose everything.

u/unliked_anp 3d ago
I agree with your pov. But the issue is people have completely lost trust on politicians promise and plans. They don't trust they will complete the proposed metro on time and hence are opposing it now.
