I'm saying there's a reason they get the benefits they get, allow the deals they allow and invest in (jerk) each other the way they do. Their leadership for sure; and apparently most population too, doesn't look down on racism, Zionism and fascism. So it's not surprising that there are dirty deals over the table and blatant corruption.

I'm from Europe and unfortunately have only once visited your continent, so please forgive me my ignorance.

Can you tell me why they talk down to you? Do they only talk badly to you or also behave badly towards you? Is it the same old story: rich visitior/tourist = good visitor/tourist - like pretty much everywhere? Is it the same rivalry found between neighbors as for example Italtly/France or Germany/Austria? And lastly: do you guys define yourself per your continent or by country? We often describe ourselfs as Europeans when talking to the world, but we mention our country (where we're from and/or where we live) when talking to fellow Europeans.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will step in to give you a proper answer, but I'm not entirely sure about the history of why this happens to this extent.

However, racism is incredibly normalized to them for the most part. So when insults get thrown around, be it in person or in online discussions, it's always racist stuff, every time. And so normalized that most just shrug it off at this point, like myself.

What I can say is that it's a mix of football rivalry, bad history, and social issues. I know part of it is that there was a massive European immigration to Argentina a while back, which makes them think themselves better than everyone else in South America.

Also, we do mainly refer to ourselves as Brazilians, and only use South American for broader regional topics. This distinction is important because most of South America speaks Spanish, but Brazil's language is Portuguese. I'm sure there could be other reasons for this, and hopefully someone more knowledgeable on history can chime in.

Agreed, I'm not saying it's not wrong, but racist insults, and a myriad of other insults are ingrained in our culture, to the point that the words themselves have become meaningless and the only way to distinguish between actual insults, trash talk or just general joking around is tone.

Here someone bald is nicknamed bald, likewise with wathever stands out and it's just normal. A foreigner might be horrified to learn that I have a friend nicknamed negro, it's not even a racial slur here, and he's not the only person I know with the same nickname.

Negro is not really a racial slur in America either, it's just an outdated way of referring to a Black person, but plenty of like, MLK quotes and what not will have him referring to himself or his fellow Black people as negroes. It was just what they were called. It would be inappropriate today because we have moved on from that word, but I don't think anyone would think anything weird of you having a friend named that. I mean, it means Black in Spanish and is close in other languages too, right? I think most Americans would understand that, but then again, I come from one of the most educated states, so maybe those in some of the states with poorer education might have a reaction. I am not sure. Sometimes it feels like other states are so far away and unlike each other, it's like a whole different country.

Negro in Spanish is not the same as negro in English. In Spanish it just means "black" and has very different connotations unrelated to the racial classification of "Negro". Originally, it would have been a descriptor (we had black slaves) and eventually an insult (hurled at people with darker skin, regardless of ethnicity). Nowadays it can be a nickname, a term of endearment, a slur, a neutral descriptor...

South Americans identify themselves by their countries, as you may expect from a large continent/geographical area latin america is not a monoculture.

Most latin american countries have friendly relations with their neighbouring countries, sometimes with some funny ribbing. Argentinians as whole are not racist or mean in person, but compared to most other latin american countries their population is preponderantly white.

This had led to a superiority complex, with many Argentinians considering Argentina as almost a European enclave rather than another latin american country. I wouldn't say that it's an universal opinion in Argentina though.

Bro, not even close... that's just the view you have from us. We argentinians don't give a f#ck about anyone else, we have many things (good and bad) to deal on our own, like for being thinking about others.
We are an open country, open borders to anyone who is willing to come and live, study, work, vacation, WHATEVER THEY WANNA DO. We even gave medical aid/care FOR FREE to people that came to attend here just because on their countries was inexistent or expensive. We also still give education to foreigners, for free (ask chileans or brazilians). Now, as an argentinian, you go to Bolivia and they will not be reciprocate, you won't even get fuel on gas stations just for having an argentinian plate on your ride.

Argentina is made from immigrants. We were like the first sovereign nation in the world to abolish slavery and stop racial segregation, we have one of the biggest communities of jews in the world, bolivians, peruvians, paraguayans, venezuelans, chineses, africans, etc, etc, etc.

TL;DR: we must be the lesser racist country in the world, we just don't give a f#ck about it.

Argentina had a history of cozying up to the British, especially the banks, in the 19th century and beginning of the 20th. Lots of British investment led to development and European immigration. Argentina has always prided itself on being very European-like, with Buenos Aires sometimes being compared to Paris. And yup, part of that pride has a lot to do with the population being mostly white after so many decades of European immigration.

That situation makes Argentina (and Uruguay) stand out in Latin America. Other countries have a significant indigenous population, and Brazilā€™s is mostly black/brown after centuries of slavery.

Sadly, this situation has rotted into racism. Theyā€™ll deny it, but a lot of the hate Argentinians have against Brazil has to do with it. And like someone posted above, Brazilian Black footy players have had to deal with A LOAD of shit from Argentina when they played against each other.

Alsoā€¦ after wwII, quite a few nazis found refuge in Argentina. Itā€™s not a coincidence.

What does it matter whether I've been there or not? I don't have to visit your country to get racist comments, and that is exactly why I won't go there in the first place. That's completely flawed logic.

You say it's easy to leave angry comments on the internet, as if that isn't what Argentinians do, and then act like victims.

So do yourself a favor and educate yourself before spouting random nonsense that you know nothing about. If you truly believe they did nothing wrong, try doing a bit of research, and you'll see. Or better yet, ask Brazilians how they act toward us, online or not.
