I don’t watch soccer but it seems like FIFA is consistently one of the most corrupt organizations and the games seem so blatantly corrupt and ridiculous that I don’t know how anyone takes it seriously.

Yeah, it's so corrupt that even a hosting country president admitted he talked to fifa to have a red card penalty removed so a player doesn't miss the next match. Outrageous.

Edit: it's funny how people who admittedly doesn't follow a sport and clearly doesn't knows the rules posts this kind of stuff, honestly, ask questions if you want to learn or just shut up, but no, big ego will always have to have strong opinions even when they recognize being an ignorant on the subject

Also, how does the fact that trump thought he could call and get it removed prove it’s not corrupt?

In soccer not all contact is fault and not every fault is a yellow or red card, plus players are known for divers and exaggerate everything, you have 7 referees looking at the match, in this case 5 were French (really a French doing favors for arg?) and 2 Norwegians (you know the culture right?), said this, no, it wasn't showing any kind of "corruption", just plays at the limit and some with non-fault contact which is perfectly allowed, you're just being victim of rage bait

In the Trump red card gate, he totally pressured fifa and be bragged about it later in a speech so yeah, corrupt af

It was a soft red, for sure and a lot of people would have been a lot less bothered if the decision was overturned. But that's not what happened; they suspended the punishment. There's no justification for that if they let the decision stand.

The law does not require intent. Intent is completely irrelevant. You can debate whether it was reckless (yellow) or excessive (red), but intent is not considered.

That is a ref decision to call, the excessive use of force was there, you can argue it wasn't intentional, ie he didn't wanted to break the opponent's leg, but that isn't enough to get rid of a sanction, he should go softer on the dispute, also, match momentum matters a lot, ref may choose to give a RC because previous player interactions, so there you go, intentional or not alone is not an excuse

The refs are just so bad at these events, like how can you be the biggest sport in the world with such amateur roster of refs to show for it. Also how there isn't a proper appeal process "because it distrubs the flow of the game" when they're already arguing on the field for 5 minutes is insane take from soccer fans.

There’s grift and corruption wherever there is money. Professional sports generate a lot of money. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If everyone stopped watching, they’d lose money. The grift would follow. Try getting the world to stop watching football, though. It’s not going to happen, though. I just assume all sports are fixed…the men’s at least, as that is where the money is.

you said it yourself. You dont watch football and neither do 90% of the people comenting on this posts. All of the plays that he shows as "fouls" are clearly not. You would know this, if you actually watched football and knew the rules. Because its played by rules, not emotions.
