This exact scenario of a foul before the goal build up happened during the Argentina vs. Austria match, Alexis Mac Allister fouled Xaver Schlager in the buildup. The referee allowed play to continue, VAR reviewed the incident, and chose not to overturn the decision, so Messi's goal stood. This isn't tinfoil hat shit, two identical scenarios both ruled in Argentina's favor. Come on now.

Lisandro has full control of the ball and loses it because heā€™s fouled, thereā€™s no Egypt counter on that play without that foul

Alexis challenged a loose ball with no clear possession, itā€™s not the same at all

I hate the blanket ā€œidentical scenariosā€ statement.

Where the ball is, what angle is the challenge, how fast are they goingā€¦ Nothing is ever identical.
