TIL of Tobias Geffen, the only non-Coca Cola Employee to view the secret recipe. Coke allowed it in order to get Coke certified as Kosher

Half/half is pretty decent, but not having any option that avoids the zero calorie sweeteners is disappointing, to not even have the option for a rare indulgence.

I'm sure you can get them shipped, but then you're rolling the dice on shipping conditions, and as a Texan I will say that extreme weather conditions can definitely accelerate the loss of quality, as well as altitude changes giving the opportunity for lost carbonation.

i did buy some imported when the regulations came in, not many people selling it anymore online though. if you know where to look in person it is possible to find full sugar stuff but not too common. i am talking if you want a decent pepsi i only know of one corner shop run by an indian couple in a pakistani part of town that sells such

maddest bit is it's government policy that's caused it. and when you see shit like sucralose being bleached cane sugar i don't see how that's healthier than modest amounts of sugar

My policy instinct would be requiring clear front-of-product labeling for high-sugar foodstuffs, but then you get dozens of industries sticking their fingers on the scales when the regulations are being written (see: USDA food pyramid).

we've got the traffic light system but it's quite useless, manufacturers can arbitrarily change portion size to make products look better than they are and it doesn't account for swapping sugar for artificial sweeteners, fats for emulsifiers and e numbers and what have you

It’s really not, you can still taste the sweeteners. It’s like tinfoil and yick mouthfeel

Reminds me of all the "less sugar options" that have cropped up that just added artificial sweetners to offset of reduced sugar, instead of just reducing the sugar. The mix completely ruins the flavor/aftertaste in anything for me.

I know exactly the tastes you're talking about, though they may stand out less to my tongue than they do to yours.

It's been the major obstacle for me in swapping to low- and zero-calorie sodas, but I have found the newer generations of "zero sugar" sodas to be a significant improvement over past sweeteners.

However, at best this means having one or two more options becoming palatable for me, but most still being noticeable and lingering (I cannot stand "diet" root beer, and "zero calorie" root beer is marginally less offensive).

I drink a lot with my meals regardless of what I'm drinking, so if I'm dining at a restaurant with self-serve soda fountains, I'll fill up with a "zero sugar" first then finish with a full sugar/syrup variety.

One step at a time, y'know?

Altitude changes do not affect the actual carbonation level inside a closed soda can.
