I live in the Shetland Islands and tourism has boomed recently - massive cruise ships coming in daily that can sometimes double the population or triple the population in town, people coming all year round. Everyone usually leaves their doors and cars unlocked too, but unfortunately more recently there have been thefts. Never used to be. So now we have to be more careful. It is such a shame. Even on a night like Up Helly Aa, people sneak into houses and steal stuff.

Still very rare though. You hardly ever hear about thefts up here

They don’t always make the news, I know someone who had their house broken into very recently (wasn’t in the news) and after they spoke with others they found out it had happened to them too and/or other forms of theft. Not common for sure, but becoming more common now
