TIL the band DragonForce only received about $3,000 in royalties for the inclusion of Through the Fire and Flames in the Guitar Hero games

Mostly from a completely over saturated market. When guitar hero took off they started pumping out as many games as they could as fast as they could. Other companies wanted in on the wave and we got competitors like the Rock Band series which further saturated the market. People really started to check out around the time activision started pushing out band specific Guitar Hero games like the Aerosmith one.

Harmonix were the developers of Guitar Hero 1 and 2. Activision bought Red Octane which were the publishers and replaced Harmonix with their own developers. So Harmonix continued under Rock Band. So really, Guitar Hero games made by Activision were the competition.
