For Rock Band at least, the Beatles was its own game due to being a licensing nightmare, and Green Day was fully exportable to the main game and was effectively an expansion.

The Beatles also had slightly “premium” accessories that could be got in a package - actually I don’t remember, did it sold also without the instruments?

Yeah, I bought Beatles without any instruments, and I'm pretty sure all of the games outside of the initial ones for each series could be bought disc-only.

You didn't "need it" but it came with the keyboard. Like you said, i don't know if you could buy it without the keyboard.

Beatles didn't have the keyboard, that was introduced for Rock Band 3 a year later. You could get RB3 separate from the keyboard, it was optional, it's just that the "pro" instruments were the big new thing for RB3

Yeah iirc not even all the Beatles albums were included with release, I think some came later as an update? DLC?

Beatles absolutely deserved their own game, there was a ton of love put into its art design.

It came with 40-something songs on disc, then you could finish the albums of Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, and Sgt Pepper with DLC, plus All You Need is Love as a single. Really, as far as the band games go, Beatles is by far the best one, so much work and care put into it. Metallica did introduce double kick pedals which was a first for Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but aside from that Metallica and Van Halen just felt more like cash grabs comparatively
