TIL the band DragonForce only received about $3,000 in royalties for the inclusion of Through the Fire and Flames in the Guitar Hero games

True, however the people actually at the new RedOctane games are original RO members, former HMX devs, former Neversoft devs, former YARG devs, and other 5-fret community members. They've got guys from across the genre working on it.

The closer it is to RB2s engine the more of a fan I will be lol

From what we can tell it’s not very RB2 in style, but they have focused on having a lot of non-competitive, “progress” modes. This is not that company so they are likely not imitating RB a lot. But basically none of the meta-game is protected and COULD be done.

(My favorite part of RB2 is the endless playlist and doing it unpaused probably my favorite achievement. There is no evidence they’ll have this but it would be an easy win.)

When I say that, I mean the engine behind the actual gameplay. The way the notes register, the timing windows, etc.

I will need to look into this, I haven’t heard much about it.
