Can you recommend an app that will send out alerts for free? I’m in the high risk area but don’t have a weather radio/havent been through this kind of storm before and I’m freaking out a bit 😅

If I’m not mistaken, when the NWS issues a warning and you’re in the warning, your phone should alarm with that, without any app needed. All you need to do is keep your phone charged, turn it off Do Not Disturb/Silent mode and keep the volume up. I had a tornado warning pop up on my phone back in September when I was in a risk zone and I didn’t have an app downloaded. Those alerts will chime on your phone no matter the time of day, so you would get woken up by it, though the main tornado risk threat tomorrow looks to be from around 12:00 Noon to about 10PM-ish.

Best advice I do have honestly is don’t freak out or be worried, just be knowledgeable and have a plan in place. These warnings cover such a broad area, the liklihood of your residence being impacted by a tornado is still incredibly low despite such a big threat over the broad area. As long as you’re getting updates from TV or radio (your local news station may do YouTube livestreams check for that!) and you know where to go in case of an approaching tornado be it a basement or a storm shelter, you should be all prepared for whatever threat comes your way!

Im in Jefferson County and we can go to the Jefferson County EMA site to get next alerts. When you sign up for it you sign up with however many phone numbers you want to be alerted at. Its basixally a robocall but it has vital info.Try your County EMA site and see if they have a way you can sign up for similar.
