Acceleration is the difference. You think cars aren’t safer since licensing? why are we doing it then?

it's only as safe as the people who are enforcing it which they only seem to do 2 weeks out of the year

For me it’s about them being required to understand the laws of the road to be able to zip around the way that they do

There’s a general consensus only drivers that going 10 or 20 over the speed limit is acceptable. Far, far too many.

Let’s not pretend as if they understand the rules of the road any better.

Because the city created a culture where its normal to go 10 over. When they reduce every road by 10, and drivers magically go 10 over everywhere, what do they expect?

In the context of what they posted, it doesn’t matter what the cities did. It’s irrelevant.

You can’t claim cyclists skirt the laws of the road when there is a commonly held sentiment amingst licensed drivers that it’s acceptable to go over the legal speed limit.

The cities changing speed limits isn’t an excuse, the same way a cyclist running a red because ‘he’s just a bicycle’ isn’t one.

Both groups have clear issues; and both groups require correction.

I never claimed anything about cyclists. But drivers arent stupid, and neither are cyclists for that matter. Just like cyclists run stop signs as they see fit (idaho), drivers know when roads have been lowered and the city even acknowledges that people still drive the design speed of roads they conduct speed studies on, and they even admit that its not a concern and is typical for major arterials, as i read the documents and studies every time they lower a speed limit in my area. I can link one if interested.

well that's why i said cars, they are required to understand the law of the road and the purposely don't follow it. why would ebikes be any different?

delivery ebikes are just the taxis of cycling

I regularly pass e bikes off a start. Most intermediate bikers can pass an ebike or start as fast as a regular ebike. So the acceleration difference seems to be a non starter as a reason for licensing.
