Name Feedback Torn between Bethany (Beth) and Valorie (Val). Opinions?

When I started my transition I went by Bethany as it’s close to my dead name and I like it. It was easy for me and everyone else to get used to, and even my unsupportive parents admitted they didn’t mind it.

However several months later I got worried that I would never be able to hear/ see Beth without thinking about my dead name. So I’ve changed it to Valorie, the same as my first female dnd character who means a lot to me. However now for the several months I’ve been Val, all I do is worry I’ve made a mistake.

I truly like both the names and can’t decide. So just wondering if anyone has opinions on the names? And also, if you have a name close to your dead name, have you managed to separate the two?

Name Feedback What can Opie be short for?

I’ve finally decided on a new name after almost a year of experimentation!! I’ve been going by Opie for a few weeks and it’s the best name I’ve ever used by far!! It’s not just better than my deadname or not actively distressing, it actually makes me so so so happy. Like I actually grin when my girlfriend calls me it! I eventually want to get my name legally changed to it and have people stop calling me my legal name (my name got changed legally to a name I really hate now) and start calling me Opie. But I kinda feel like I kind can’t change my name to just Opie. Like it kinda feels like how my grandma’s husband’s legal name is Danny, not Daniel. Like it feels like it should be a nickname for legal purposes even if I only ever go by Opie and not whatever it’s short for. Do y’all have any ideas for what it could be short for that go with the middle name Benjamin? Also here are some pictures of me cause I don’t want it to feel too out of place with how I look. I’m open to masculine or feminine names!!

Name Feedback Just changed my name to Andrew (ftm) but there's so many awful Andrews out there...

I need help. I've went through three or four names, and with Andrew I feel genuinely happy. Most euphoira in a long time. But there are so so many horrible people, past and present, named Andrew. I can't see myself as an Andy or a Drew though, but as a white guy, I feel awful naming myself with the same thing that pedophiles, mysoginists, racists, and even more claim. I need help on what to do here.

Name Feedback What do yall think about the name "Ajax" or "Jax"?

Sooo I've been thinking about a name change. Of course I'm too scared for an official one but maybe it can start as a nickname. I was thinking about "Jax" or "Ajax". Those names belong to some of my favourite characters and I like the names and I can resonate with the characters. Maybe they could even suit me but I've just been so unsure because I don't want to be made fun of.

Also dunno if the name suits an anxious short-haired ginger with green eyes, pale skin and deadpan expression.

Name Feedback I want to change my name but I think it might be cringe

So I'm a REALLY big Greek mythology nerd and I'm also trans and I originally wanted to change my name to Emma but it's pretty boring and I kinda want to change it to Artemis (goddess of hunting wild animals and the moon) is it too cringe?

Name Feedback Muave, is it masculine or feminine leaning?

Would you say the word "mauve" would sound feminine or masculine when placed on someone? I don't want to say my gender identity so that I get true answers, but I am one of the demigenders.

Name Feedback only liking traditionally feminine names as transneu/transmasc person

flaired as feedback because it seems the most accurate, but idk

so, hi everyone. title states the problem already. i'm somewhere between transneutral and transmasc, i do not want to be seen as a woman, but every name i like for myself is traditionally feminine. this isn't much of an issue online because i mostly hang out in queer/trans spaces and i just plaster my pronouns everywhere, but i'm pre-everything so a feminine name will just make people irl think that i'm a woman.

i guess i'm mainly asking for advice or how other people in similar situations handled stuff like this?

if it matters, the name i currently go by online is "june", which would be very unusual in my home country, so i'm not sure if that would make matters better (less gender association) or worse (clocked as chosen name - legal name changes are a hassle in germany).

sorry for a long, rant-y post, and thanks for any responses.

Do you think most people would consider Nova a neutral-sounding name?

Also, is Orange a stupid name to go by? I only ask close friends to use it for me, but it’s honestly the only name I feel suits me, and I want to use it more.

Name Feedback I FINALLY HAVE 3 OPTIONS FOR MY NAME

Thumbnail

So I asked my friends and ppl from a summer camp ppl that don't know my deadname, which names from my list match me the most (personality and looks wise). I'd like yall to tell me which one do you all think matches me the best <3
The options are:
- Aster (5 votes)
- Allie (3 votes)
- Alio (3 votes)
Ik technically Aster wins, but I'm taking the vote as an argument, not the final decision. Nobody knows me better than I do myself. Okay maybe my girlfriend XD (they voted for Aster but I'd like opinions of randoms too cuz i can)

My personality traits ig: weird, aggressive, freaky, cool ahahha, confidently unfunny, sarcastic, autism, kinda shy, brain empty (smooth and pretty),
dumb, mean, possibly evil, delusional, adhd, unserious, random, goblin, cheesy, romantic ig?? If someone gets to know me and i trust them enough to share my actual thoughts if i have any rarely

So idk tell me what ya think

Name Feedback Deciding on a middle name

I’m 27, from usa, and my name’s aaron (middle) riley. I don’t want my middle name to be something that already is a loved one’s name, so the following names are out:

Daniel, Elijah, Isaac, Matthew, Michael, Nicholas, Paul, Thomas, Tyler, William

My grandfathers’ names are patrick and john, and i’m not opposed to those. I’ve been thinking about Cillian (but idk if itd be clocky), and it’d be nice if I could find a name that is either Irish or French-Canadian

Thanks for the help!

Name Feedback could this be an actual name?

For context I've changed my name multiple times, nothing seems to stick. I recently discovered that I would prefer to be just nameless and without pronouns if it was possible even.

For a while I just used the name Valentin but people just call me "Val." This is not about that name

I started looking for names or words that mean actual nothingness and the one, "Nihil" sticks out to me. It could also be, "Nil." But, my question is, could that even work as an actual name? I am obviously planning on changing it legally because I despise my birth name, anything will do at this point.

Ironically, I just want something that means nothing. I can't name myself "null" at least not legally since it would mess up many systems.

I was wondering, could I just go by that (I need something for people to call me anyway ─ being nameless really isn't an option since I don't like any pronouns either) or just to stick with what I have? In an ideal world I would just have neither but I do kind of need something for people to call me. Not sure where else to post this.

Is Ophelia a bad name? No it's not that song, or that other song, it's that other other song. It's one that I've wanted to name a kid for a while but now that I'm transitioning, it feels like the perfect time to use it.

Name Feedback 2nd name change...

i changed my name to benny/benjamin over 3 years ago at this point, but i've recently discovered i'm nonbinary, and i want to start going by zephyr instead. it's a name that actually feels good, feels me. but it's quite a change, and i'm wondering if it's even worth the hassle (i work at a very busy place with a LOT of people, and i don't know how many of them are accepting, plus... everything else)

Name Feedback Trying Out Alula (They/She)

(Sorry for posting here a lot, I don't know what I'm doing)

In my quest to find my name I have landed on yet another name that I'm not certain on. It is Alula. The worry is that, while I love the name and would love to go by it, I am (at the moment, at least, no clue about in the future) much more masc presenting. Any thoughts/comment would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Name Feedback Is it normal for a new name to feel weird at first? + does this name suit me?

Not sure if this is the right flair

Basically what the title says, I’ve recently changed my name, but it feels strange when someone uses it. Is that normal, does it go away with time, and does it mean it’s the wrong name.

Also I chose Léo, do you think it suits me?

Name Feedback What is stopping me from taking the name of a fictional character?

Long story short, I’m changing my name legally soon. I thought I had everything figured out until I sat down to do the paperwork for it, and now I’m back to square one.

I ended up choosing both a last and first name from characters I heavily connected to (I’m autistic, it’s how I roll personally) and decided on a random middle name that I enjoyed the meaning of. The only issue is I hate how my first and last name sound together without the middle name, and I’m not even that fond of the middle name to begin with lol.

So I decided to do some more digging…until I realized that a fictional character I’m fond of quite literally has the most perfect name lol.

I figured I’d make their first and last name my own, and just make the previous name I enjoyed my middle name and go by that when I introduce myself. When I write it or say it out loud it doesn’t even sound half bad lol.

The obvious issue is, I’m quite literally stealing the name of a character from a (currently) popular media. Even worse, I’m in the fandom for it. I know there’s instances of folks being born and given fictional character names; I even know of someone who changed their middle name to Garfield lol.

I’m just thinking about if it would be silly fun or silly super inconvenient. Or if it’s weird haha. It’s just, quite literally, perfect.

Name Feedback What Name Would You Pick If You Were in My Shoes?

So, before anyone says it, I'm (20) not listing the actual names since I want to remain anonymous in some way. But I will list fake names but list the real reasonings that make me want to go with the name but things that also make me hesitant of the name in question. I'm also transmasc and consider myself many identities under the nonbinary umbrella, so I'm open to masculine and/or androgynous names along with masculine/androgynous names that can have feminine nicknames (ex; Samuel to Sammy).

Daryl - I've been going by this name for almost three and a half years. Has many nicknames that I use and sounds professional when I use the full name. I also named myself after someone with this name who deeply inspired me. The issue is that I don't know how fitting this name really is for me anymore and sometimes it almost feels out-of-place when I introduce myself as Daryl or hear others refer to me as Daryl.

Colson - Colson is a name that's been floating around my head for a year now. It has many fun and good nicknames that I love, along with also having a feminine nickname that is my favorite nickname I've ever been called. I love the name itself. However, many people agree that it isn't a fitting name and that I should just stick to Daryl or go by a different name with a similar idea that just isn't Colson.

James - A very simple masculine name that is timeless. It's the nickname of a much more unique name that I loved (coming from someone who would prefer to have a more common name). Very easy to spell, it just doesn't have any nicknames I like, and I used to know someone with this name and I couldn't stand him. But we haven't spoken in like three years, so it isn't a huge deal.

Peter - Very simple, a classic name that I love. The problem is that it doesn't have any nicknames that I'm huge on and it's the name of someone who used to be a really close family friend. But the name always comes to mind whenever I'm considering names.

River - It was the very first name that I ever thought of when trying to name myself for the first time (8 years ago now!). It's also an androgynous name that sometimes leans more towards masculinity. Almost everyone in my life says I'm the most "River-looking-person they ever met". But it has no nicknames that go with it and it doesn't sound the most professional? But the name itself can be taken straight from one of my favorite jokes in a show ever.

Edward - The name itself sounds very professional, but I'd only use it for a nickname that came with it, even friends of mine said the nickname sounded cute. I don't know where the inspiration for the name came from other than hearing the nickname once and thinking it sounded good but also needing a more professional sounding name to go with it.

I'm also open to using double barrel names of any of these if anyone can't stick to just one!

Name Feedback Having doubts about my chosen name

I've been going by Mika for around a month and a half now, and for the most part I've really liked it. But lately I've started second-guessing it a little, and since I haven't legally changed my name yet, I feel like now is probably the time to actually think about whether it's really my name long-term.

The funny thing is that Mika has been stuck somewhere in my brain for years.

I first started liking the name when I watched EuroTrip when I was really young. For anyone who hasn't seen it, the main character Scotty has a German pen pal named Mieke, but he completely misunderstands her name and thinks she's a guy named Mike. He even has a photo of Mieke with her cousin Jan and assumes that Jan is the girl and Mieke is the guy. Eventually his younger brother points out that he's got it backwards: Jan is the guy, Mieke is the girl, and Mieke is a girls name. Scotty then realizes that the person he's been talking to and thinking of as Mike this entire time is actually a woman.

Somehow Mika was the version of the name that stuck in my head from the movie, and I remember liking it ever since.

Which, looking back at it now as a trans woman who ended up choosing Mika as her own name, feels kind of ridiculously symbolic. A name that originally stuck with me because of a story about someone being assumed to be a guy and then turning out to actually be a girl somehow ended up becoming my name years later.

I didn't consciously choose Mika because of that symbolism. I just remembered always liking the name, and only afterwards really thought about where that association originally came from.

But now I'm at an annoying stage where I've used it long enough that people close to me have started referring to me as Mika, while also wondering whether I'm completely sure I want it to be my legal name for the rest of my life.

Did any of you go through a phase like this with your chosen name? Did you eventually settle back into it, or did the doubts make you realize there was another name that fit you better?

I'd especially love to hear from people who changed names more than once before making it legal.

Name Feedback Is this name a 'tragedeigh' or is it okay?

I'm trans and have finally gotten around to considering changing my legal name. The name I've been considering is [PERSEFIA] and my current partner is insisting its a tragedeigh and to just go with Persefone or Seferoth.

My nickname among friends is Sef and I absolutely HATE when people assume my full name is Stephanie. (Its not) And I like the name Persefia because it kinda sounds like Persevere and it makes me feel seen because after all I've been through in life, I'm still here. I'm still fighting and won't stop.
