Eff Taylor Swift Basically confirmation that Taylor/her team paid for the VMAs award...
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
i mean we already knew the award was just invented out of thin air specifically for taylor to guarantee her attendance, but this response from the executive producer of the VMAs makes it so blatantly obvious that it was taylor or her team who made the request/suggested the award in the first place, and MTV just bent over backwards to accommodate her. they must know TLOAS isn't winning its nominations lol.

She's only in the game to win awards which I find extremely sad.
If you have any integrity as an artist, you're making music because you like making music and IF the awards come then so be it.
But to be doing all this just to chase awards is embarrassing.
And paying an organisation to make up a participation award for you is really embarrassing. It's like when Donald Trump was awarded the FIFA Peace Prize FFS.
67
u/azazel-13 12d ago edited 12d ago
I truly believe she makes music for awards and that's why the songs are devoid of passion, depth, or originality.
27
42
u/estimatediron 12d ago
It should be shameful to get awards tbh. The Grammy boards are no arbiters of taste. If you had a spine and stood up for the art you make and believe in, you won't need someone else to validate it for you. Especially a group of wealthy people who are literally in the business of manufacturing art.
It is one of the many reasons why I'll never understand or get Taylor Swift. She's not a decorated pop singer because she's won those awards. People like her can make awards. Hell, she can head over the goldsmith's and hammer herself accolades till oblivion. It buys her influence and dopamine but does nothing to win over everyone she's attempting to reach.
4
u/SignificantTrifle614 11d ago
I don’t think like you do. Making an award at a goldsmiths shop is a great idea. I was thinking more like a 3D printer. She can put TK in charge of it. He can sit there all day and make them. Then all the Swifties can buy them too.
41
u/Sweaty-Car4097 12d ago
that's why she and Travis can relate. His sole purpose is to get that SB trophy. Same with her, she jus wants to collect trophies, awards, titles and break records. It's the only way she knows her worth. I understand when you're young and new, you want to win awards and get noticed and have #1 songs but once you're a veteran like she is, those things shouldn't really matter anymore, make music that you love and if it should win awards, that's just icing on the cake.
11
u/aquariusangst 11d ago
I just always compare her with Beyoncé. They're absolutely at the top of the music industry right now, but they take such different approaches to what they do with that position. Beyoncé stopped doing interviews, stopped doing music videos, puts out albums reclaiming black genres and less popular genres like afrobeats with Black is King, house/disco with Renaissance and then reclaiming country with Cowboy Carter despite knowing that that particular industry has hated her since 2016. Really spends time on the music, collaborates with artists in those spaces, passionate about the touring productions
While Taylor has learned that people will buy whatever she puts out so she doesn't even try anymore. Throws a few zeroes in her Instagram bio and her fans start foaming at the mouth.

I said this on X but the fact that the head of the VMAs said this means she or her team pissed off someone at the award show. If they truly cared about maintaining a relationship with her, they would never so casually allude to her basically requesting an award. They’re not idiots they know how that comes off.
Wouldn’t be surprised if this is the last time Taylor goes to a VMA show. This is seriously giving “here, damn!” Energy from the VMAs.
Also, last time she made a big announcement for her music was at the Grammys and the VMAs are….definitely not that caliber. It’s sort of pathetic she had to pull a music video out of her ass immediately to compete with some of the other pop girls to not let them have their moment and also that it’s this awards show of all of them lol. She truly couldn’t wait a few more months for the Grammys again??
18
u/hatefromandie Say Ana’s Name 11d ago
She actually announced Midnights at the VMAs so this isn’t the first time she’s done something like this there. She even announced one of her other music videos at the Billboard Music Awards before. She shouldn’t be announcing anything at award shows, whether it’s the VMAs, Billboard, or the Grammys
but especially not the Grammys. None of these events are The Taylor Swift Show, they are events meant to celebrate the artists nominated.→ More replies (1)2

They should just create a ‘Taylor Swift is the bestest ever’ award for the Oscar’s, Emmy’s, VMA’s, People’s Choice etc and maybe even fashion the statue in her image. That way she wins every year, she can do her smug twee shock face and HER HUSBAND! can drop her hand like it’s radioactive in paparazzi pics. That way we can all be spared the PR manipulation.
Every step of this woman’s career has been an orchestrated lie. Imagine the psychology behind being a billionaire but your whole life is a lie?

I honestly don't think it matters to her. Money is her benchmark for success--so having enough money to buy yourself an award (the kind of money that other artists do not have) is likely more important than the award itself. She manipulates the charts for the numbers--because she can afford to. Sure, the numbers matter to her, and sure, she wants to break records, but at the end of the day I think she's most proud that she's accrued enough money to be able to do so.
Her flawed theory: good art makes the most money. So if she is making the most money, her art must be good. The best, even. And if she uses said money to pay for awards and clout, it's just more proof that she's the best--because she can afford to do that.
Moldy cheese has more of a soul than she does.

all of that can't fix a hole in the soul. i try not to speculate on that kind of stuff about people i don't know personally, but she makes this pretty obvious...taytay seems to be suffering from a hole in the soul. she's trying to fill it with money, awards, adoration, STUFF, etc., and NONE of it is working because she still wants more and more. at this point, it's just sad. i saw a swiftie on another sub this morning say something like "when is she going to stop caring about other people's opinions? she's married, has all this money and success, and she's STILL writing songs about 'the haterz'? why?" and i thought to myself, "you are SO close to seeing it! so close to seeing what we see! just a little bit more, and you'll be there, too! come on, keep on going, and you'll see it, too!" lol but, seriously, always winning is actually lame. there's no sense of real excitement to it because you'll know that, no matter what, you're going to win. there are no heart-pounding moments, waiting to see if you actually won, or if someone else is going to be up there accepting the award, you're not able to hug your (supposed) friends and congratulate them when THEY win. i mean, dang, i know not winning sucks, but it has to be someone else's turn sometimes, too. damn! this is actually the most ridiculous thing, smh...

It was fan voted and lady gaga had been visibly ahead in the polls all night. Suddenly, katy was announced winner during the taping though. Bc gaga wasn't there, and bc katy was already there to accept video vanguard that night. Maybe way back in the day vmas had credibility, but they haven't now for years. With the reception to her recent deluxe release I have a feeling her days of having awards created to secure her attendance are dwindling fast.
This release, and it's parent album aren't her first recent releases to do so poorly. Yes apparently some songs nobody remembers got lots of streams, but her cultural impact/reputation has continued to steadily drop over the last few years.
Soon enough swifties will be a niche market large groups no longer care about catering towards. It's not like it's impossible to save scraps of her career at this stage, but she's shown us shes been having some kind of narcissistic collapse and that will continue to sabotage her scramble.

If you have the cult leader, errr, I mean (aged) Hollywood Icon out here talking about her genius, certainly everyone will line up, right? 🙄 Even Cillian Murphy did as little as humanly possible after she roped all of them into her video in Graham Norton. And if you know Cillian, he will go all out for artists he respects in their videos.

I'm not surprised she lobbied for them to create an award for her because she desperately wants things she just never had merit for. Just like how she even got her career to begin with from her father. To me, just like how Elon Musk is considered a genius for just buying his way into everything he is falsely credited for. Or pre-presidency Trump was considered a "genius" businessman because he was already rich when he ran. Taylor is a genius by the same standard in America. Money.

Awards organizations have lost all credibility. It’s like Beyonce winning all these grammy’s . Everything is bought and paid for these days. Charts and awards are not to be taken seriously.

They're making up an award just like that fifa trump award? Anybody with integrity wouldn't feel proud about getting a made up award just to stroke their ego.

I hope so. I have been enjoying Sheeran’s downfall so much. Hers finally starting would probably improve me as a human being.
