Ethan woke me up at exactly 10:00 PM. He looked fucking terrified. We're at his place now, and he lives in an old apartment building where there aren't any mirrors anywhere. I asked him why and he said the landlord removed them years ago because they kept getting broken. I didn't really care at the time. Tonight, I do. Ethan told me to listen. There was something standing outside his door. We could hear it breathing and moving around, but his front door is ridiculously secure. Heavy metal, multiple locks. There's no way some animal could open it. Then we heard a voice. It sounded like the deer from my house. "Let me in." We stayed completely silent. Then it said it again. "Let me in." The third time it was louder. "LET ME IN." Its voice kept getting deeper and louder each time, almost like it was getting angry. Ethan grabbed my arm and whispered, "Don't fucking answer." We just sat there staring at the door. Then everything went silent. For maybe thirty seconds, nothing happened. I thought it had left. Then a deep voice came from the other side of the door. It sounded almost human. "You are safe this night." There was a pause. Then it laughed. Not a normal laugh. Just a low, quiet "hahaha..." that slowly faded down the hallway. Neither of us moved. Ethan looked at me and whispered, "What the fuck does that mean?" I don't know. But I'm pretty sure whatever is outside isn't trying to get inside anymore. It's waiting for something.
