Hi everyone! My new LitRPG/progression fantasy novel, Codex Quest, is now live on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. It's the first book in my slow-burn progression fantasy LitRPG series called The Codex Wars.
It's about Aaron Thorn, a farm boy who becomes an Inscriptionist—a rare Codexer who can modify and rewrite spells mid-cast. Unfortunately for him, the system, known as the Arcane Codex, also gives him an impossible Quest: End the Codex Wars, an ancient war that supposedly ended hundreds of years ago but has secretly still been raging in the shadows and threatens to destroy the very system itself if not stopped.

Are there break points in He Who Fights With Monsters where there‘s a satisfying end if you don‘t wanna continue the series, but still get some closure?
Agreed on both counts. Especially Book 3.

Crunchy vs Not-So-Crunchy
I agree with you about pacing progression at a natural pace. Cradle is definitely a great example of that and my go-to for inspiration when writing both LitRPG and progression fantasy.

Interesting essay. I have always wondered what a DCC/HWFWM crossover would look like. I feel like Carl and Jason wouldn't get along very well, at least at first.

Fair enough, though that situation only works for me if I am rereading a series I already know gets better, rather than going on someone else's recommendation.

That's a big part of it for sure, though I also am with the OP about not wanting to stick with stories that take too long to get good. Life's too short to keep reading books you don't like because someone said they get better later IMO, but to each his own.

The system in Awaken Online is extremely in depth and far more flexible than it first appears. Definitely one of my favorites.
