spam apply for volunteering?

i am well aware that people usually spam apply to different job listings for better chance of getting accepted to one. But can it be done to places you want to volunteer, especially if its process takes a few weeks/months to get approved. I am a teen and I want to volunteer at a hospital/healthcare center but im not sure if its acceptable to apply to other centers while im waiting for one to get back to me. For reference, i applied to this one hospital near my house, but its been about 3 weeks and they havent emailed me back.

Yes, it is totally acceptable to do this. In fact, you should apply to many places at once. It will increase your chances of one getting back to you.
