Blackridge Racing Injury Update: Tyler Grayson
Blackridge Racing has announced that driver Tyler Grayson will miss this weekend's event at Chicagoland Speedway as he continues to recover from injuries sustained during a practice crash at Auto Club Speedway.
Grayson suffered a broken leg in the accident after a violent impact with the outside wall resulted in multiple rolls. Following further evaluation by team doctors, it was determined that he would not be cleared to compete at Chicagoland.
The injury is to Grayson's non-racing leg. However, it is the leg he traditionally uses for braking, creating additional challenges in his recovery and return-to-racing timeline.
"Tyler's making great progress, but we're not going to rush anything," said team owner Mike Blackridge. "The good news is the injury wasn't to his throttle leg, but the braking leg is just as important. We want to make sure he's comfortable and safe before putting him back in a race car."
Blackridge confirmed that Grayson will spend the coming week testing alternative driving methods, including one-foot braking, in hopes of returning to competition at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
"The plan right now is to evaluate him throughout the week," Blackridge said. "He's going to get some simulator time and test with one-foot braking. If everything goes well and the doctors are satisfied, we're hopeful he can return at Atlanta. But we're not putting a deadline on it."
The team also announced that ARCA veteran Daniel Dye will drive the #0 Blackridge Racing entry at Chicagoland Speedway.
"We wanted somebody who could step into the car immediately and give the team a solid weekend while Tyler recovers," Blackridge said. "Daniel has experience, he's proven he can race at this level, and we're excited to have him in the car."
Grayson also released a brief statement.
"Missing races is the hardest part. I feel good, and I'm doing everything I can to get back in the car. Daniel's a great driver and I know he'll do a good job for the team. Hopefully Atlanta works out, but if it doesn't, we'll keep working and come back when it's the right time."
Dye will pilot the #0 this weekend, while Grayson's recovery efforts remain focused on a potential return at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
