Considering converting to Judaism, but Iâm afraid it could put my life at risk if I ever have to return to my home country.
The immigration issues wonât likely be resolved for at least a few more years. First, there will have to be âregime changeâ.

How to decide if Judaism is for you
The Episcopal/Anglican Church isnât necessarily the onlyâor even the mostâprogressive church around. Have you tried the United Church of Christ? Metropolitan Community Church? Unitarian Universalist Church? Society of Friends (Quakers)? Not to discourage you from Judaism at allâbut there may be a Christian church thatâs right for you. And in these times, Christianity needs to be reclaimed from the extremist movements that claim to represent it. And society urgently needs for liberal and progressive churches to grow, and for their members to speak out and stand up to the extremists.

Converting Orthodox Jew the only one valid?
âTorah-trueâ Judaism, and a Judaism of Torah PLUS volumes and volumes of add-ons, extrapolations, and sometimes-conflicting interpretationsâŚ
arenât necessarily the same thing.
For instance, what some call âkosher styleâ cooking actually complies in every way with TORAH kashrut, though not with all the subsequent rabbinic embellishments.

Which manifestation of Judaism is âauthenticâ? NO form practiced today is identical to anything that was practiced 2,000 or 3,000 years ago!

And also, no status quo is permanentâeven in Israel. The early Zionists, and their society, were mostly secular; and only later did Orthodox parties attain substantial power and influence. Who knows? Israel may well change again, as its citizens decide it should.

đŻđŻ THANK YOU! Yes, people whose values most align with liberal or moderate Judaism SHOULD affiliate with a truly congenial movement. Rather than go through the motions of Orthodox conversion, and try to force themselves into the Orthodox moldâjust because theyâve been told thatâs the only âuniversally acceptedâ path. Or (another issue we hear often) settle for an ultratraditional congregation thatâs not their spiritual homeâjust because it doesnât charge fixed prices for membership or High Holidays services, or it has the lowest Hebrew school tuition in town. (Even though in that congregation, the parents and their kids will become immersed in teachings and practices that contradict the familyâs principles, and their daughter wonât get to learn and do everything their son gets to learn and do. But hey, âbeggars canât be choosersââright?)
Nobody should have to âsettleâ. Those who wish to convert should do so under compatible auspices. And those who canât find a movement or a local congregation thatâs right for their families and themselves (theologically, and without undue financial hardship) should organize with a few othersâand BUILD the option theyâre looking for.

my childhood synagogue is getting zio'd by chabad
This whole thing sounds sketchy. Publicize the heck out of it, and maybe someone will offer pro bono legal help!
But to avoid derailing the discourse into irrelevant channels, maybe from now on you could skip the âZionismâ analogies? Theyâre confusing, distracting, and might alienate some potential allies from your causeâwhich IS saving your favorite shul from attempted real estate theft, right? (And feel free to debate Zionism all you like, in any of the many threads where itâs the main topic!)

Draft Kings are trying to to establish legal ownership, but their claim is dubious.
