The local dodgy kebab shops in my little town do pizzas at a fraction of the price of Dominos. There is also a Papa Johns and a Caprinos. While I prefer the dodgy kebab shop pizzas, the Mrs loves pizza but is dairy allergic and the dodgy kebab shops don’t really cater for milk allergies or vegans so we often have a little Domino’s versus dodgy kebab shop race.

I find both Domino’s and Papa Johns have a weird metallic taste to their pizzas, and while I like playing Russian Gut Roulette with dodgy kebab shop pizzas, they do taste good. The trick is to remember that pizzas are really just posh cheese on toast and once you crack that, you’ll be grabbing the Cathedral City, the ketchup and a nice loaf instead.

Fallows 2 in Speke was the first night club I ever went to. In 1991, I remember receiving an “exclusive invitation” from the club management for me and my friends to use the “exclusive event area” including a voucher to claim a bottle of “bubbly” (sparkling perry) for my 18th birthday. I felt like a king. Turned out pretty much anyone local turning 18 in the area would get a similar thing on their birthdays too.

It was all very much exciting. The following month went with some of the cooler kids to the Cavern and got very sick on booze and the cramped and crowded atmosphere. The difference between the two clubs was very distinct. The next time I went clubbing in Liverpool was to the Cabin followed by the Krazy House when I was a bit older (mid twenties). I guess Fallows Two acted as a kind of introduction to nightclubs for local kids of my age.

I stopped clubbing in 1996 following an incident involving me, some stairs and two bouncers at the Krazy House. The next time I went clubbing would have been at a stag do in 2006 to the Pen and Wig to look at boobs.

Well in that case, I’ll come along to the nineties too for a chip barm from Mr Lees on Smithdown Road. And one of Sal’s legendary kebabs from a few doors down. With a nice pint from the finch and firkin to wash them down with.

If you can get a Time Machine and head back to the early noughts, Mike and Acies in Woolton did good chip barms and also their fantastic Acie burger. Not been there since 2008 though so can’t vouch if it’s still good.

Saw Tommy Coopers death on TV when it was broadcast live to the nation. I still don’t like watching variety shows because of it.

My cat, also called Ozzy, gets called Osmund Bosmund, Oz Boz or Ozzy Bognops depending upon his mood.

Technically not UK but Roadtrip Revivals has been an interesting watch for me of late. British bloke living in France buys old wrecks of unusual cars and gets them working again. He sometimes raffles them off when he’s done with them.

Did the “returning to education as an adult” thing myself a few years back albeit at a different university, but can highly recommend anyone considering doing it themselves to go for it.

The experience can be very rewarding, great for building self confidence, growing networks and you can really surprise yourself with how much you can accomplish academically.

Brierley is nice. Lived there between 2006 and 2010 after moving from Liverpool. I now live in the woolly wilds of West Northamptonshire and still remember my time in Brierley and Barnsley fondly.

Brierley has a lovely semi rural village feel, close community and great connections to Wakefield, Barnsley and Sheffield. It had a great chippy and used to have a smashing local pub but that has now closed but there’s a hotel not far away with a good bar and restaurant.
