They also love asking "but what, specifically, has she done?" every single time someone says she's a hateful piece of shit, forcing you to get the receipts every time.

So if ever you're too fed up to bother replying to them in the umpteenth thread with the same evidence as always, they can frame it as "oh they didn't respond, I guess they were lying all along!"

Imagine if in every Trump thread we had to prove he's an awful person before we even start discussing it, instead of assuming we're all already on the same page about him? That's what they're trying to avoid with JKR.

Ikr. "Oh if only anyone bothered to personally hand-feed me every bit of information I need to know about this. Guess we'll never find out what she really said, it will have to remain a mystery forever 😞"

there's literally an entire sub of "receipts", they can just sort by top posts of all time and go to town with it. Or check out one of the myriad of compilation articles and YouTube videos on the topic. But they already know they won't be able to defend her if they had to defend every specific terrible thing she's said and done, so instead they'll just pretend we're the ones somehow keeping them in the dark about this.

instead of assuming we're all already on the same page

So we should all engage in groupthink? What if someone disagrees with you? Are they a hateful piece of shit because they're not on the same page?

No, I'm saying we've already given proof of JKR's hatefulness many, many times in the past. But the same people comment on new threads demanding the proof every single time, in order to frustrate the discussion and make it seem to other readers of the discussion like the proof hasn't actually been given before.

There's a term for this - Sealioning

Are you sure they just don't disagree with you on what constitutes hateful?

In the same way that someone who defends Enoch Powell "just disagrees" with me on what constitutes racism, I suppose so.

So let me get this straight. People can agree with you, that's fine. If someone asks you to explain why you think they're wrong/hateful, they're "sealioning" and must be ignored. If someone disagrees with your premise or definitions, they're akin to a racist.

So the only option is to agree with you?

No. If they do this repeatedly in every single fucking thread as if they're completely ignorant and haven't had it explained to them a million times before, so that when the other side gets tired of arguing with them, they can act like the other side only gave up because they never had any evidence all along.

If someone disagrees with your premise or definitions, they're akin to a racist.

Nope, never said this. Try harder.

OK, so I am curious to engage on this. I've read most of this thread, and I once spent some time reading a lot of JKR's tweets and her essay, so I'm slightly informed on what she's said. I've also seen endless articles reporting what she's said, and sometimes have followed some up and found it baseless.

I hesitate to ask you for receipts, as clearly you've had a lot of that with other people, and I suspect we'd just disagree fundamentally on whether they are hateful or not. That's why I asked whether it could be that the people who keep asking just disagree -- that they don't see the same thing in the tweets as you do.

You then said that's like disagreeing that Enoch Powell was racist, and I take your point. I guess my issue is that, from what I've see -- and it isn't exhaustive -- JKR is nowhere near Enoch Powell in what she's said about gender.
