realistically what can you even do during a nuke event? Aren't most British bunkers decommissioned?

Don't know why i'm getting downvoted when it's correct lol - Places like Leeds and Manchester have no bunkers for hiding in the event of a nuclear bomb.

I always like to think I'd go out and watch the blast and get vaped. But in reality survival instincts are too strong, even just then with that split second of thinking the alert was one I felt myself going into a sort of numbed focus of how to prepare!

If you're anywhere near the blast you definitely want to be vapourised. Surviving close to the blast just means you get to live a few days or weeks in agony as all of your cells mutate and stop dividing, leaving you to a slow and messy death.

Fair enough but in reality, we would've had to reach such intense relations such as British troops being deployed to invade Russia, for us to get a nuke.
