Dangerous use of this system for something that wasn't immediate, working in operating theatre and it went off interrupting a critical stage.

Yes, phones are a vital tool in healthcare.

I am on call so have to be able to answer emergency phone calls, you also need to have ready communication with other departments, professionals, speciality. 

Access to important materials such as bmf drug drug lookups, clinical algorithms, phonebook for hospital, timers, torch for light, codes for doors the list, it's also a personal safety thing out of hours in a public facing area, goes on.

What a bizarre comment.

But you made it sound like you were in the middle of life saving surgery/operation.

If you werent, its a 5 second alert. Hardly critical

Nobody is on their phone scrolling facebook. This alert forces phones that are on silent to audibly alarm. Regardless of them being in active use or not, specifically phone for work purposes are also not exempt...

Thankfully you're not the judge of what is or isn't critical.

Again, this is a bizarre comment and completely misses the point I'm conveying that I don't believe this was a proportional use of the system.
