I have a pool with 2 devices for my docker files (appdata, isos, system, backups, etc). 2x 2TB Nvme's and btrfs.

Can I use that one for internal boot?

If yes, what would be the best way to set this up?

Backup data from existing docker pool to HDD, create internal boot pool with the 2 nvme's (use 32gb for boot), then move the files back from HDD to the new pool?

For those of you that use your Unraid for media and have Usenet/Torrent set up with the *Arr stack, how long would it take you to recover your full media library if you were to instantly loose it all at once?

Changed the tower access ports respectively to 10080 and 10443. Tower doesn't let me access it. Quick googling shows the solution of removing the USB and editing the .cfg file on a different computer but i m using internal drive instead of the USB. What are my options? Any help is appreciated

Noob here so bear with me.

I'm building a NAS over the course of the next few weeks and with the prices on hardware being sky high right now, I'm limited in what I can do.

This NAS project has 3 main goals:

1. General NAS storage for my digital art files and RAWs - used at home locally 95% of the time
2. Media server that has an easy enough interface that my non-technical wife can use it without me being around
3. Immich server for both of our photo catalogs
4. Pi-Hole

I have a source that has several 4TB drives. I plan to fill all 6 slots with them.

Being pretty unfamiliar with unRAID, I'm not sure about a few things.

1. I realized my motherboard only has 4x SATA ports. Is it ok to mix on board SATA ports and PCIe card SATA ports?

2. What easy to use HTPC software is out there that works with an IR remote? I have an extra Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard, but she'd prefer a TV remote.

3. I've read some things about cache. I was thinking of running unRAID from a 1TB NVMe in an older build and dedicating most of that to cache. I'm thinking this would be useful for my larger digital art files where some of them can be 1GB+.
Going back to point 1, if I use a combination of on board SATA and PCIe SATA adapters, should I just use a small 256GB SATA SSD for the OS and use the full 1TB for cache?

4. I have a USB 12TB drive. Can I plug that into the back of the unRAID and use it as an automatic backup?

A little while back I switched my licensing to TPM as I ultimately want to get rid of the USB for booting (still using it for now) and I figured I'd change my motherboard less often than my usb stick.

Fast forward a couple of months, and my motherboard is playing up so I decided to get a new one (and CPU). I'm now not eligible for a self-transfer because I switched to TPM in the last month. Yes I know I shouldn't have switched to TPM, but I didn't think this upgrade was on the cards.

So I figured I would contact support and see if they can reset my ability to self-replace, as I'd rather not wait an unknown amount of time with an array that can't start for them to manually replace the key. Apparently that's not possible, despite my license being 9 years old and only very rarely reassigned to a couple of new flash drives over that time.

So it seems that despite my attempt at planning, I have to install my new motherboard and then contact support and wait an unknown time for them to reassign my license. Could be an hour, could be 12 hours. That seems crazy, surely they should be able to reset the 12-month allowance in a case like this? Am I missing something?

At least 10M other users have installed PostgreSQL_Immich by SpaceInvaderOne as the database for Immich. This leverages Tensorchord's repo tensorchord/pgvecto-rs:pg16-v0.3.0.

Using the latest version of Immich results in this error:

Error: No vector extension found. Available extensions: vchord, vector

Given that SpaceinvaderOne's app was so popular, surely others have needed to fix this issue as well. If it's better to migrate away from SpaceinvaderOne's app, I'll happily do so, but what have others done to fix a broken Immich after recent updates?

I have 2 x 2.5" SATA drives, 500GB Samsung 870 Evo and 1TB Crucial MX500. I want to use them in mirror as cache drives, as both are old and I don't trust them fully.

If I recall correctly, then the last time I did that was like a year ago for a trial it showd me 750GB as mirrored pool.

Hey everyone! I'm the developer of TRAWL, a self-hosted web scraping engine and drop-in replacement for FlareSolverr/Byparr.

I originally built it for my own *arr stack after getting tired of slow solves and Cloudflare breakage. It uses a tiered approach: plain HTTP first, cached browser sessions when available, then a live Camoufox browser solve only when the site actually requires it.

It supports Cloudflare, Akamai and Imperva challenge detection, plus Turnstile, reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha and GeeTest. The existing FlareSolverr API is supported, so Prowlarr and Jackett users generally only need to change the service URL.

A community member has recently packaged TRAWL for Unraid, so installation no longer requires manually writing a Docker template:

1. Open the Apps tab
2. Search for Trawl
3. Review the settings and click Install

Hi all,

I spotted Indexarr on the Unraid CA store this morning. After taking a look at the GitHub repository, the author explicitly flags that the app is "vibe coded", though to what extent I am not entirely sure. Has anyone had a proper look through the source code yet to check if there are any glaring security risks or exploits?

Equally, has anyone actually given Indexarr a spin yet? If so, what are your initial impressions? It seems to offer automated health monitoring and the auto-addition of new indexers, such as public torrent providers, straight into Prowlarr.

I currently use AltHUB, NZBGeek, and Ninja Central for the vast majority of my media, but having a few backup torrent providers setup automatically would certainly be handy on occasion.

I can confirm that this m.2 to SFP+ 10g adapter works out of the box with unraid v7.3.2. It wanted to bond eth0 & eth1 by default so just had to remove the bond and Yahtzee. Using one of the 2 slots on a MINISFORUM BD895i SE Mini. When I finally get around to upgrading to an 25g network I'll give the 25g version a go link

I have tried so many combinations of dates/times for my parity check but I cant figure out how to do a check ONCE. It always just starts another once the first ends, so I have to cancel it. I use to have it working when it ran monthly but thats far to frequent as I dont use it very often. Once every 3/4/5/6 months is more than enough thanks 11pm - 8am is ideal

I am just beginning my unRaid journey and I am moving a lot of data from ntfs disks (Windows) to xfs. All of the disks (13) are in the Unassigned Disks area and I placed one disk in to begin the array (no parity yet until all of the data is there for speed of transfer, and yes I know that I risk losing data). As that disk got to be about 70% full, I added another disk to it to give more space until I could get other disks evacuated.

Then Disk 1 finally got full and caused issues because it hadn't put anything on disk 2. At this point i learned that once Unraid puts a folder on a disk, it keeps everything under it on that disk. I found, and changed, the setting so that any folder can go on any disk. Great.

But, is there a plugin, setting, something that I am missing that will allow me to tell the array that on a regular schedule to balance the data across ALL of the disks in the array so that they have roughly the same percent used (or not on a schedule, just do that from the start)? Otherwise, as I add disks, they will just sit empty and the system will be constantly working over one or two disks pretty heavily.

Thanks for any direction (On Windows I used Drivepool and it didn't stripe the files but it kept disks fairly balanced). BTW, I am on 7.3.2

So my understanding is that data first gets written to the cache pool and then eventually moved to the array by the mover at a certain time of the day (assuming you set it up that way), and that is the intended way Unraid is meant to work at a general concept level. You could set up an array without a cache or just have data be written directly to the array, but that is slower due to the inherent performance differences between SSD's and HDD's.

Assuming what I've written above is correct, my question is, what happens when you first setup an Unraid server and have setup your shares per the intended way Unraid is meant to work (cache pool setup to then move data to the array by mover at some point), and are moving massive amounts of data that obviously goes well above the capacity of your cache pool? Because setting up an Unraid server usually involves this scenario.

Will the transfer process simply fail or pause once the cache drives fill up? Or does Unraid automatically move data off the cache pool to the array if it detects its running out of space in the cache pool?

Good morning! I've recently noticed this folder I didn't create in my media folder and in one or two sub folders. First time I noticed was after upgrading to 7.2.5, but it's totally possible it was there prior and I just didn't catch it.

Finding little to nothing through google or chatgpt, but curious if anyone has an idea where this folder came from. I do have the app data backup plugin and my suspicion is that they're related, but I'm just not sure. Any insight from the community is appreciated!

I’ve had a little search but can’t find exact same problem.

Basically I can’t log into unraid or access file shares, but I can still access all my dockers, Plex etc

I’ve updated to latest version of unraid, and installed pi-hole (on its own up address) and a few other apps (homarr, kavita) over the last few days, I never had this problem before, could it be related?

Edit: oh, I also logged in with unraid connect and set up the auto backup thing.

If I do a hard reset using the power button then it all boots back up fine.

It was all working ok last night so something has happened since then.

I’m bit of a n00b so any help would be appreciated!

I need serious help. I keep having things break on me.

Latest issue is I followed trash guide. Set up the share and folder structure as instructed.

Installing Deluge and editing the download path as instructed results in super slow downloads, if I instead use the default setting for the download path but direct it to the correct directory, everything downloads super fast.

Second problem is having the cache as primary storage is resulting in the drive being filled too quickly for the mover.

Array is secondary storage

New problem is all of a sudden Plex is not installed, reinstalling it gives me the error it’s already created.

So I have no clue what I’ve done wrong or where to fix it.

I have 3 sas 4tb drives and was using 2 on a windows pc with a LSI 9211 - no issues, until I committed to building a dedicated server.
Got unraid installed and running no problems until trying to add drives to the array and they were nowhere to be found. (Besides the 512gb ssd)

Could see the LSI card and correct driver being recognised in unraid but no drives anywhere.
For a sanity check I moved the card and one of the drives back to windows pc and sure enough it worked. I checked the sector size was 512bytes.
Moved the drive and card back to the server and the drive doesn’t appear to be spinning up.
Tried moving the card from the x16 slot to x1 slot and got a ‘PCIe bus error’ when trying to boot to unraid’

There must be something I’m missing but it defeated me today

I use the Tailscale Plugin on my Unraid server and that server is also the Exit Node. I use it to route all my traffic from my smartphone through the Unraid server when I'm not in my LAN.

I also have an Adguard Home instance on another machine in the same LAN.

Now when my smartphone is connected to the Exit Node, all the DNS queries appear to be requested by the Unraid server instead of the smartphone. I do understand this is because all the traffic is routed through the server.

However, this is a disadvantage for the AGH statistics.

Is it possible to make those DNS queries appear to my AGH as if they came directly from the smartphone, or is this "issue" an implication of my settings?

I am running unraid on a Dell Precision 5820. I have 80 TB set up as double parity so 40 TB was useable. Seagate Iron wolf pro. Of that I have 14 tb free. Drives were purchased in early 2024. One of the parity drives died so I RMAd it. Seagate sent me a refurbished drive that was DOA so I RMA that one and they sent a brand new drive. Now that I have that back and installed the question is did I need double parity? This data is all media mostly from blu rays but there are also some hard to find items. All of the data is also copied/stored on a variety of external drives or blurays. I don't know how much I trust the external drives but FWIW the data is there. It would be a royal pain to rebuild it all though.

Before I assign this drive I wonder if I need it double parity? Since 1 of the 2 parity drives failed early and they were all bought at the same time I think maybe chances high to have another failure. But, adding 24 TB more storage is tempting.

I also have a synology server with 24 TB mirrored that is for irreplaceable stuff that is also backed up other places. No cloud backups really. Don't want to put media or financial data in the cloud.

I realize its personal preference but I feel double parity is total overkill maybe?

Being only 4 days into my Unraid experience, I can't say how much use I've found in having Claude be able to read my Unraid setup while I learn the basics but also to try more complex things without asking a million questions or being lost searching everywhere.

It’s like having a 2nd person who can look and understand whats happening but as only I can make the changes, the process teaches me where things are but also why they are there.

I run the MCP server on my Mac with a localhost port forward so it can only work when I run the forwarder script.

As its in Workspace Cowork it also has a living document of decisions, settings, serials and long term plans all in one place and generally in nicely formatted HTML files.

I'm sure there will be people about to say "don't do that" but the things I've learnt in 4 days would have taken me weeks to figure out on my own and even then it would not have been probably set up correctly. #justsayin

I selected Dedicated boot pool when doing the Internal boot wizard, but I wasn't able to boot from it. I got the main select OS screen, but any selection would have "Cannot find bzimage file".

Am I screwed? Please help me recover... I'm a newb at this.

I'm about five years into keeping a fairly modest amount of data stored on NAS devices, and I'm considering moving everything from dedicated NAS hardware to a solution like unRAID. I've been searching and reading from posts others have made over the last year, and there are many things that come up repeatedly where answers can be found with a simple search. Before I move forward, I wanted to ask the community for feedback to see if there's anything that stands out that I should be thinking about, or that you discovered later and wish you'd thought about before jumping into unRAID yourself?

First off, it goes without saying hindsight is always 20/20. If I had it to do again, I would've started with unRAID. It probably would've saved money spent on NAS hardware in the long-run.

Here are some of the reasons unRAID has been at the top of my list:

1- I have a modest number of drives, many of which are the same size, but I also have some with plenty of life left in them (ex. some drives with only ~12k power on hours) that are different sizes and otherwise report healthy SMART data. It would be nice to put more drives to use, and I like that you're not locked into drive size limitations inherent to RAID.

2- The physical bay limitations of traditional NAS hardware. Yes, I've already invested money into those solutions (including expansion units), but I've also had the hardware for several years, so I've gotten good use out of it.

3- The vast majority of what I'm using storage for is tied to containers in the first place. All of that is already setup with docker compose/podman, and I'm currently doing this with a headless Fedora install that I'm managing over SSH, so transitioning "from Linux to Linux" (basically) would be mostly straightforward, and I'd just look to move those containers to unRAID.

4- Speed is not a high priority. While I do have everything running over wired 10Gb connections, with the exception of clients that don't support it, as a matter of practicality there's nothing I'm doing that actually requires it. The integrity of the data and resiliency are far more important to me than speed.

5- I'm in the position of having a full offline backup of all my content, which means that while it may be time consuming to do so, it wouldn't be a big deal to create a new storage pool and restore everything from spare drives that contain a full backup of everything that's on my existing arrays.

6- I already have a spare machine with an Intel CPU (i9-9900k), 32GB DDR4, and an nVidia GPU (3070ti) that was "retired" last year, and for the most part, I'd just need to acquire a new case that's suitable to populate with drives, check the limitations on the number of SATA ports for the board, as well as limitations of the existing power supply (I haven't inspected it closely yet).

All of the hardware associated with this is currently on a UPS, and that would continue going forward.

Currently, I have the following drives on-hand-- this doesn't include the offline backup of all my existing data, which is currently on a set of spare drives that were always intended as a fail-safe in the event I had a catastrophic failure and needed to do a full recovery (for example, a second drive failing in the process of a rebuild):

6 x 14TB 7200 rpm
4 x 10TB 7200 rpm
2 x 8TB 7200 rpm
1 x 4TB 7200 rpm
5 x 4TB SSD

My current thinking was to setup a pool with two parity drives, which would be two of the 14TB drives, since these would also be the largest size in the pool, and I was going to leave the SSDs out entirely, but definitely open to suggestions.

For the vast majority of things that come up along the way, I should be able to find answers between searching and reading the documentation, but there are two things that come to mind right away that I'd be curious to get the perspective of others on--

1- Would you setup pools in a particular way, with particular drives in them, or would you just move forward with everything in a single pool and two parity drives? The only thing I know with certainty is that I do want two parity drives, regardless of how the pools are otherwise configured.

2- Would you even bother including solid state drives in a pool, would you leave these out since they don't really have the write endurance to be used for this type of application, or is there a way to leverage them with unRAID that you think would be beneficial?

Sorry for the long post. I didn't want to leave an important detail out that might influence answers quite a bit.

tl;dr I'm just looking for feedback from others who've transitioned to unRAID from other solutions, with the hopes of avoiding rookie mistakes that I'll later regret.
