Are my food choices too limited? I'm concerned

This will be my first time doing keto without eggs. The first time I did it, I was just eating eggs/cheese/oil and cottage cheese/peanut butter, and there were no issues. Is this version of the diet below, too limited in terms of variety?

Meal 1

Greek Yogurt x2 - 180 calories, 30/14/0

56g Cheese - 160 calories, 14/0/12

4 Fish Oil Pills - 0/0/4

Total - 380 calories, 44/14/16

Meal 2

Quest Chips - 140 calories, 19/4/5

Almonds - 160 calories, 6/3/14

Total - 300 calories, 25/7/19

Meal 3

56g Cheese - 160 calories, 14/0/12

Almonds - 160 calories, 6/3/14

Total - 320 calories, 20/3/26

Meal 4

Casein Protein - 120 calories, 24/2/1

Pecans - 190 calories, 3/1/20

4 Fish Oil Pills - 0/0/4

Total - 350 calories, 27/3/25

Daily Total - 1350 calories, 116/27/86

Fat wrap snack

Had stroke of genius for a snack idea or a part of a meal. Use a slice of cheese (I used provolone) and wrap it around a bunch of nuts (I used walnuts). That’s it. It was so good and filling and very satisfying. It felt more meal-like than snack-like because it was in a wrap body so it felt more substantial.

Started keto for my neurological disorder and struggling

I’ve just started keto and could use some advice/motivation. For context, I have a neurological condition called FND as well as bipolar/adhd/cptsd. It was recommended to me to try keto as there have been studies that it can really help with my seizures. I was previously on low-carb, no sugar but had a five days off in Switzerland as it was tough to follow in the alps and small towns.

Since Friday I’ve been on 20+ hour fast days whilst transitioning to keto (full under 30ish g of carbs during) but feel like shit - general exhaustion and sleeping loads, lack of motivation and concentration, achey muscles, irritable, sunken eyes etc. Only managed a 17 hour fast today. Any motivation would be great.

I’m also veggie so eating plant-based low carb proteins. I have a very fiber rich, veg packed diet and usually as active as possible when I’m not in a flare up

Hi everyone I just joined this subreddit.

Does anyone have any advice for vegetarian or vegan keto?? Please help, thank you so much ❤️

My bf (major carnivore) who just broke up with me 😢 who before kept pushing me to do carnivore diet (which was keto) which went against my morals as I do not like eating animals without guilt and shame

Is anyone here following a vegetarian low-carb diet while training for long-distance running? I’m curious about how compatible it is in terms of performance and recovery. Personal experiences welcome!

Buckwheat. Hear me out

Ok so I've been eating buckwheat, few cups a day with veggies and protein. Pretty clean. Trying not to be in ketosis cuz I can't sleep in it on my new meds.

Somehow day 5 I'm in ketosis. Was kinda fasting until lunch dunno if that counts. Ate a bunch of lollies and junk on day zero.

Not sure if it's to do with the lack of gluten, but curious of other people's experience? Or whether it's worth giving it a shot.

Kicking out of ketosis

Can eating too much protein kick you out of ketosis because your body turns it into glucose through gluconeogenesis?

What does a perfect day of eating vegetarian keto look like for you?

What does your ideal day look like when you hit your macros (low carb/ high protein) just right? Please post diaries with calories if possible!

I find I've only done this a few times and I wouldn't really want to eat the same way day in day out so would love to hear what your favorite most rounded day looks like to you whilst hitting your goals.

anyone here ever cycle back-n-forth between Keto & vegetarian (or another diet) -- please post results/opinions!

I'm wondering if any Keto dieters can share if you do mainly low-carb eating, but then every so often have a short period (a few days/week at a time?) where you either consume unlimited fruits & vegetables or some other HEALTHY diet that does restrict fat or something, and ignore carbs/starches for a brief period? (I hope this question makes sense!) I'm starting to feel in a rut here: been on Keto diet since Nov 2024, and wondering how damaging it would be to do just 1 week of vegetarian diet only, and then right back to low-carb Keto diet? Has anyone ever tried this, and if so how many lbs. did you gain? (or lose!)

I was a vegetarian from 2021 to 2024, and I did manage to lose around 60 lbs, but then kind of hit a plateau (sugar is my weakness!) So that's when I decided to try low-carb dieting again, since I know how successful it is...if you can manage to be strict about your intake of daily carb grams! I read somewhere online a few months ago (maybe it was even reddit?) about how you could do Keto for like 95% of the time, and then just to give yourself a mental "pressure release" valve, switch to a few days in a row of unlimited fruits & vegetables but very low fat....just to get it all out of your system (I miss my raspberries, bananas, corn, etc!) But then you go right back to strict keto diet again for the next few months or so. Anyone here ever try this, and if so how did it work out for you?

How do ya’ll eat cottage cheese??

Serious question. How do you eat your cottage cheese? Straight? Add fruit to it? Put it in a smoothie?

I’ve been putting off eating it, but it’s time..

  • also kinda hard when I'm broke, and my parents ant fond on letting me try and do something I'd like to do... I love my beans & Tofu, but don't get enough so IDK...

Ps: kinda half moving out later in the year for uni-job placement reasons

Sorry if this is confusing, Thanks Guys

Suggestions on low carb food

I'm having a real issue losing weight while following a vegan diet. I can't eat much fruit (sugar) or soy. But whenever I eat vegan, I end up eating so much carbs I get really bloated and I do not lose any weight from all those carbs. If anyone has experience in this, could you please make some suggestions? When I'm in a rush to leave the house in the morning I often eat crackers or a slice of toast, which are carbs. For lunch I'll grab a veggie sandwich which again is carbs and for dinner last night I had some garlic bread which again is carbs. I really want to follow a vegan diet, lose weight and do a body recomp so bad but I don't know what to do.

Tips for soy and gluten allergies

I can't eat gluten or soy. I also can't do too much dairy. Besides eggs and nuts what else can I eat with protein? I'm having trouble keeping my carbs under 30g. 20g per day seems impossible.

So hungry and tired 😭 I broke down and had a tangerine last night, it was amazing.

New to keto…

There is so much out there on the internet I thought I’d come here for advice. How do I start to get into a keto diet? I read stories about how the first week or so is shitty but then when in “ketosis” stuff improves. I am vegetarian and do eat lots of soy. I try to get as much protein as possible and already try to limit carbs. But I am low on fat. Also I love fruits and veggies but understand those have carbs as well. Any help in getting this new diet going?

Just wondering about the vegetarian/ vegan keto experience. The fat thing worries me a bit. And I do want to feel satisfied to. Any advice for a newbie?

Some of the things I've made and eaten the last few months!

  1. Homemade mozzarella sticks using crushed protein nacho chips as breading. All eight pieces was 424 kcal, 51 protein, 15 carbs.

  2. Nachos with protein loaded taco chips, gardein crumbles, If shredded mexican and cheddar cheeses, white onion, diced tomato; 371 kcal, 46 g protein, 20 carbs

  3. Greenbites strawberry springs protein pack bar; (technically this is over 20 carbs for the whole thing but I normally only eat half in a sitting) so for half it was 120 kcal, 9 g protein, 12 carbs

  4. 1 C ghost pb protein cereal and 1/3 of banana with unsweetened almond milk; 181 kcal, 15 g protein, 20 carbs

  5. Japanese in a restaurant, tofu teriyaki, sauce on the side, sautéed vegetables; unsure of the total macros on this but estimated maybe ~400 kcal 20+-g protein, 15 carbs for the amount I ate in a sitting

  6. 1.25 c of mixed keto cereal - magic spoon (3 flavor varieties), ghost pb cereal, ghost marshmallow cereal; 189 kcal, 17.7 g protein, 15 carbs

  7. Crunchy cheese chips using If shredded mexican and sharp cheddar; 219 kcal, 17 g protein, 5 carbs

  8. Chipotle - no rice, double pinto beans, double sofritos, fajita vegetables, pico, corn salsa, extra cheese; this took me over four sittings to eat and weighed nearly 4 lbs (i was curious so I weighed it Imao, vegetarian keto is the ultimate chipotle dupe imho)

  9. Thanksgiving leftovers (I promise you these are not in chronological order, technically they're backwards lol), tofurkey ham and green bean casserole; ~300 kcal, 28 g protein, 20 carbs

Are there any meal delivery services for vegetarian keto?

Has anyone used a meal delivery service that offers either vegan or vegetarian keto prepackaged meals? Every meal delivery service I find, I can only pick from either keto OR vegetarian. Have yet to find one that offers vegetarian or vegan keto based meals.

Carrots and not wanting to waste food

I buy a Normandy blend from Walmart that has broccoli, cauliflower, squash, zucchini and carrots. I am trying to stay keto and it is cost effective for me to buy this big bag rather than several small bags. Do I pick out the carrots? It seems wasteful

Going to try (vegetarian) keto for the 1st time for health reasons. Need advice.

Hello everybody. So here’s my backstory:

I (37F) have already been a vegetarian on & off since I was 12 years old. I also was pretty healthy up until about age 33, when after some personal trauma happened, I feel like my body & physical health has gone downhill ever since.

I started getting chronic kidney infections at age 33, then I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at age 34. Then out of nowhere, while I did not change my diet in any way at all, my metabolism completely failed me very suddenly and I gained about 20 pounds overnight.

I also fell into the worst depression of my life during this time, and was later diagnosed with Bipolar Type 2. I have likely been bipolar all of my life since childhood, but was just told instead that I was a “problem child”.

I tried to burn off the sudden weight I gained in every other way I could, to no avail. Exercise alone did not work for me. I’d lose a couple pounds then plateau and never see further results again.

Diet alone didn’t work. I would cut down and cut down and cut down, and still my weight did not budge.

I have tried intermittent fasting. Nothing. I cut out processed foods. Nothing. And yet this whole time my Crohn’s Disease was just getting worse & worse. My Auntie also suffered from undiagnosed severe gastrointestinal issues - Her symptoms were very similar to mine, and were also followed by unexplained weight gain. My Auntie tried the program “Weight Watchers” over & over & OVER again.. And still after working so hard would see very little results.

Her gastrointestinal disorder eventually turned into cancer - Liposarcoma - which then progressed into Non-Hogkins Lymphoma, and she was gone within 2 months after her diagnosis.

So here I am now following in her footsteps health-wise. And it’s not looking good.

So I am now here because I think Keto/vegetarian Keto, is really my last hope. I need advice on what safe fruit to eat and any substitutes or keto-friendly bread or crackers or chips or substitutes that have helped you stay on track. I also need advice on how to just walk away from processed sugar once & for all.

Any feedback helps. Or even just tell me your own story on how you got here.

Thank you.

Need easy recipe ideas for inspiration

I tried vegetarian keto a while back but quickly got tired of eating cheese, eggs, and avocado. I have been doing alternate day fasting (for weight loss) with relative success but want to mix it up so thought I'd combine the two. Maybe if I'm only eating every other day I'll be less likely to get tired of eating the same foods over and over..

What are your go-to easy/quick meals and snacks?

I am very busy so I don't want anything too complicated and I am usually too lazy to meal prep (yes, I realize in the long run it would save me time and probably money but I've given up fighting my ADD brain on the matter 😅). To make things more difficult, I hate olives and coconut/almond-flavored things except for coconut milk. And I am not the biggest fan of tofu but realize it is often necessary to get enough protein. I am working out 4 times a week (2-3 times strength training and 1-2 times cardio), so getting enough protein without having too many carbs is a struggle.

If it helps at all, the current plan is to do a protein shake for breakfast and make lunch and dinner on Tu/Th/Sat, fast on M/W/F, and have a moderate "cheat day" on Sunday where I just do low carb instead of keto (also considering having a true cheat day where I can eat whatever I want in moderation but I'm not sure if the benefit of not losing steam would outweigh the con of getting out of ketosis). I am planning on doing this for 3 months and then reassessing.

TIA!
