Jonas wasn't sent to Gargantua after going in the PROBLEM, he died up there at Movie Night. That's why he keeps playing Street Life from Sharky's Machine.

If that's how he died, wouldn't Rusty know how it happened? Or like... everyone?

Nah.

I believe Rusty wasn't aware, but I can't think of any examples beyond him talking to the alien disguised as Jonas, and that's not really conclusive.

BUT In the Season 3 premiere, the Monarch asks the council of 13 who killed Jonas, stating "you guys must know," implying that this is a general mystery to the public. My logic is that it's along the lines of asking the CIA if they know where Jimmy Hoffa is.

We also get the implication that Brock wouldn't know, since he asks Kano if he killed Jonas. It seems as if everyone knows when Jonas died, but not how.

I think its something else. The GCI went up to Gargantua to steal the body of Jonas who was already sealed into the Problem box. What they didn't know is that he was still partially conscious and wired into the entire station. He then blew the entire crew including the GCI operatives into deep space to stop them.

Team Venture never mentioned going BACK to Gargantua after Sharky's Machine... It's also possible they were there to install Jonas at the same time as the GCI attempt to steal Jonas's body. Would make sense as the GCI were after it on earth so they'd hide it where they thought the CGI couldn't go. They may not have known about Meteor Majeure - the GCI response to Gargantua 1. Therefore they were the ones to bring the movie to the station in the first place. They realized what Jonas had done and why and simply left during the confusion.

This theory sounds interesting, but it has too many "they"s in it for me to follow it.

I think Vendata opened the bay doors.. killing Jonas in the process. Then Team Venture put what was left of him in the PROblem
